For the record (… he says like somebody’s taking notes on this shit …) I’ve never used the Ignore feature and truth be told, I’m not even sure I know how to go about using it.
When I feel the need to ignore a poster, you know what I do? I ignore them. Fuck vBulletin, I know how to shun with best of them.
When you put someone on ignore, you still see them in a thread (in fact, you’ll also see a thread they start on a forum page).
In a thread, you’ll see their name, just like everyone else’s. And where their normal post is, you see “This message is hidden because [poster’s name] is on your ignore list.” “Ignore List” is clickable so you can go see who else pissed you off that month. There is also a link titled “View Post” which will open the post up (like the new spoiler box does), as well as “Remove user from your ignore list” if you think they’ve unknowingly served their time in post purgatory.
Clicking their name won’t bring up the drop-down menu, it just goes straight to their profile.
Someone once told me I was on theirs but I couldn’t put him on mine. He is a very wise dude and I didn’t wan’t to miss out on his knowledge. I certainly was rude to him and regret the comment I made but such is life. Once you speak it, an apology won’t always make things right. I thought I was making a funny ass joke but later thought, what I think is funny, and can be joked about, isn’t always funny to everyone else. Oh well, it’s water under the bridge at this point.
I’ll be honest. I spend more time thinking about what I say now. Hopefully real life will follow suit at some point.
Assuming this isn’t a whoosh, along with others upthread, the best way to have ignored the fact that I already told the joke is that you, Telcontar, and perhaps others who didn’t post directly that they hadn’t seen the joke, must have my name on their ignore lists. Otherwise, you and they just ignored the post without assistance.
That’s the evidence. Not proof. Evidence.
If this is a whoosh it’s a decent one. At least it’s some evidence that you aren’t on my ignore list. But I could just be clicking on your “read post” button to see what you have said.
Wouldn’t it be neat if we were both doing the latter?

Same here - I considered it once, years ago after some asshat (I don’t even remember who it was; he’s probably gone now) informed me that DH and I aren’t a family because we don’t have kids.
If he is on your ignore list, how do you know what he said?

If you ever have someone on your ignore list, each empty post box has an icon you can click to read that particular post, in case you feel the need.
