He was banned for that .That’s why this thread is misguided.
…you are welcome to hold and express this opinion.
The mods have a long history of rules-lawyering when it comes to banning. It’s not just Huey. I just see everything as extremely legalistic. It’s all about the letter of the law, and not the spirit. People who had a long history of violating “don’t be a jerk”, but because they weren’t really breaking any rules, they were allowed to stick around. And then they get banned on a technicality, so people start screaming their heads off.
It’s really not your place to say that though, is it? Just like your incredibly convoluted OP isn’t something the mods here really have to take seriously.
The OP is perfectly correct in everything he has said, but I am minded of that saying, “You can’t reason somebody out of an opinion they didn’t reason themselves into”.
The mob wanted this guy gone, it was an emotive stance, they didn’t like him and so a way was found. But now nobody wants the stark inconsistencies to be pointed out, far better that people ignore the faulty logic and just leave things be. And certainly don’t call for the Huey Freeman rules to be applied to any of the more popular posters.
I wonder who is next on the list?
What can you do with baseball stats?
Perhaps, maybe even probably, but only after plenty of goading from Huey doing his share of riling up white people, some decided to return fire in kind. I didn’t take the bait, but didn’t really have any empathy for him in the least if this is how he was going to go about it. He had a chance to quantify his statements better, but chose not to.
And yet Huey liked those and seem to respect them a lot more, the others are just white people who don’t admit to being a white supremacist. Most here are not Trump supporters, and certainly not all on this board that support Trump are white supremacists.
I really don’t care if they don’t have a very specific point or points, rule or rules on Huey’s banning, or if they decided to keep him. I seen enough, think most had. If they didn’t do anything, much of the board members would have, quite a few started to already move in that direction, they have a tendency to eat their own when someone is this shitty towards so many. The board would have stayed ugly for some time, and he probably would have eventually went Morgenstern’s way if he hadn’t been banned, so as far as I’m concerned the moderators did him a favor by banning him. He was out of gas, anyhow, started complaining about how much time it took to post here, how he didn’t really have the time, over and over again. Hell, he got his martyrdom, and the attention, so he’s probably happy too.
Sigh…Says you. They have a great pension plan and their health benefits are not too shabby either, but they just keep it on the low. They will never admit to any of this though.
The letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law? I find that extraordinarily interesting to read. So what is the spirit of the law and how exactly do you determine and enforce that? By social ostracism and a mob mentality? A 21st century version of Salem?
You realize that in a forum that has Great Debates, Elections, and the pit of all things the so-called nebulous spirit of the law is nothing more than a popularity contest that can be manipulated by weaponized language. You don’t need to refute a political or ideological argument with the spirit of the law. You can just assert with a mob of aligned posters that the argument itself is evidence that the poster is “jerkish” or “assholy” or “racist” or whatever and needs to be banned.
That’s what spirit vs letter does. It stifles discourse. Unfortunately, this is a bigger problem in society as a whole as compared to a minor message board.
@bucketybuck
Lol. The “mob” wanted him gone for his “emotive” stance. Can you really not see how silly you’re being?
I never said “his emotive stance”.
Laugh out loud.
I am personally A-OK with the “Huey Freeman rules” being applied liberally.
I’m also A-OK with the current stance of the mods, which is is that there is not and never will be a mathematical formula for who gets banned when.
Yes, if there were such a formula, there would be no need for moderators, just run it through a computer program and be done with it. In a court of law, there would be no need for judges, lawyers or jurors, again, just run it through the computer.
Thanks for the clarification, Bone. Its been a long day and I was a little confused for a moment catching up.
“He did it too”.
:dubious:
:smack:
So, is Banquet Bear going to get an apology from either of you? Because I think he’s due one.
Why? Elmore’s status as a sock is completely different than his participation. Banquet Bear was comparing participation.
Did Banquet Bear say anything remotely similar to “Why hasn’t Elmore been banned for socking too?”?
Not really. Socks aren’t here to "participate in a non-confrontational manner " or “actually engage with people” - they were both wrong about how he actually participated, as opposed to seemed to participate - besides their mischaracterization of the nature of most of his posts, as Banquet Bear already showed.
What does that have to do with anything? I’m saying they should apologise for being so quick to circle their wagons and trip over themselves in leaping to a sock’s defence at all. Elmore made them look silly for defending him, at best. I’d say incompetent, actually. Yeah, “hindsight’s 20-20” and all that, but c’mon - didn’t take rocket science to see what kind of poster Elmore was - sock or troll, 50/50.
Bullshit. Banquet Bear complained for specific reasons, and Elmore got caught for something totally unrelated-There are no “I told you so!” merit badges to be handed out here.
What for? Elmore wasn’t as sociopathic as Hewy and didn’t get banned because he wasn’t as sociopathic. And then it turned out he was a sock and DID get banned for that. Why does Banquet Bear deserve an apology, since he didn’t argue that Elmore was a sock and was dismissed? If he had argued that and the mods were dismissive of his sock concerns, sure. But that didn’t happen.
Also, the whining about “O, we lost a crucial, unique and sooper-special voice today! Teh dope will never be the same” is exactly what we heard when Aledebaran, Collunsbury (who I liked) and about 4 or 5 other people. People were ramping up to do that with Kaytlin before she confessed and that took the wind out of their sails, but you could certainly see it coming. And yet the Dope muddled on somehow. Hewy’s racist, sexist invective didn’t add anything to the board, but even if it did, we’ll struggle on…somehow.
