Aw, MAN!
I get the men’s vote, but not the women’s vote. I thought the weakest solos were Lauren and Anya.
They judges were showing favoritism towards Lauren due to her connection to the show in past seasons. Anya got the nod because of her partnering successes. They probably felt that Jessi is unpopular with viewers and this is her second dance for her life.
I think Jessi is the most interesting personality. Her dance with Pasha was killer and if not for the unfortunate medical calamity, she would’ve been safe had she performed it a night earlier. She does tend to wear unfortunate outfits when dancing for her life, though. But I thought her hip hop solo was extremely good.
Found a site later that says she’s 5’9" – she must wear some hellacious heels.
I think the judges’ logic on the women was not due to their dancing, per se. I was shocked when Jessi told us that her hospitalization was due to dehydration and that she’d had the problem before. If so, wouldn’t she, being on national TV and competing for her life, taken steps to mitigate it on her own? I mean, maybe she did, but… They also can’t take the chance of it happening again.
And it almost seemed, after she was cut, that she’d expected to automatically stay, possibly from “sympathy vote”? As a former performer, I just got a vibe of entitlement from her that I’ve seen (and experienced myself, sad to say) before.
That said, I was pissed about Cedric. He did get a sympathy vote from the callers. They should have kicked him out long ago. He’s taking a spot better a dancer should have, no matter that he is so unique when in his own style and by himself.
No kidding! Did you see the very end? When Cat said, “Your votes sent these two dancers home” as she always does, Jessi (just before they cut to the end credits) pointed to herself and mouthed “Not me!”
She’s clearly pissed. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I don’t like her solo and I don’t understand why that’s her genre, because I think she dances everything else better than what she’s supposed to be good at.
Maybe the judges also decided that there’s only room for one female hip-hop dancer and Sara is clearly the better of the two, IMO.
ETA: Is Jessi the one who collapsed during the auditions?
It’s probably just me, but I thought Jessie’s solo was a hundred times better than Lauren’s (I think that’s her name).
Faina is the one who collapsed during the auditions. Surely someone else will beat me to that in the time I take to post.
Anyway, I completely agree that Jessi felt entitled to be there. But I never liked her from the start with the baby oil, and thought her solos this week and last were awful.
To agree with Nigel, none of the female solos were very good. What the hell was with Anya’s dress?
I place the blame for that squarely on Mary the Shrieking Idiot. If she hadn’t spent 10 minutes last night ripping the kid a new one for having the audacity to still be there after the judges didn’t cut him last week, no one would have voted for them, they’d have been in the bottom three again, and Cedric would have rightly gone.
I guess I’m the only one who hates that Jessie was cut. Even the way she was cut with a terse, sudden announcement with no explanation. I think Nigel was right when he said that she has a unique hip-hop style that lends itself to other styles. Her waltz with Pasha was the smoothest, most fluid waltz I’ve ever seen on the show. I have a feeling that Nigel was the dissenter, which is why he blasted whats-her-name for moseying out to the stage and taking her sweet time getting started. So long, Jessie. You was robbed.
Sorry, I missed it, which guy got cut?
Also - does anyone know the name of the song from Hok & Jaimie’s routine?
Danny is the guy who was cut. Terrible shame, that.
The music from Hok and Jaimie’s dance is “The Chairman’s Waltz” from the Memoirs of a Geisha soundtrack.
Jesus was cut.
Absolutely! They should have said they didn’t like him, then let him move off the stage. They gave him plenty of time to play to the call-in audience. He has talent, but just isn’t right to keep.
And when they announced that Cedric and his partner were safe, I thought the guy in the other couple, Danny(?), was going to pop a nut! He was so obviously expecting it to be Cedric do to all the lead up.
Agreed. Additionally, her “he’s my boyfriend” worship of Pasha, and her “but if I go back to having a job, then my life is over!” suggest a very fragile identity and personality.
Note to Pasha…yeah she’s smokin’ in a dress, but run for the hills fast, man! Danger!
Ha! I used a Wedding Crashers quote as soon as she started talking last night: “I’ve got a Stage Five Clinger!”
I had to watch the last 15 minutes of Wednesday’s show before Thursday’s show, so I didn’t get to see Pasha dance with the choreographer until last night. It was interesting to see the differences between the 2 women. I though Jessi did a better job.
I also had to laugh when Debbie Allen said, “It was like watching you dance with Bette Midler out there!” I had just said the same thing word-for-word while they were dancing.
I have seen a whopping one episode.
I have to root for Dominic, however, as he’s a friend of a friend. heheh
I thought Jessi was incredible during the recap of the missed dance, last night, and I thought her solo was better than Anya’s and Lauren’s. She seemed to be really as crushed as she said she’d be if she were cut. I’d hate to hear she did anything rash.
The waltz (if that’s the dance you’re thinking of: pink dress, with the spin) was Danny and Anya.
Not that one, this one.
