So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 - 2008

WTF are they doing right now? It’s like they’re replaying the elimination show from last week.

Ah, shit – it’s a rerun of last Thursday, which I missed. So I get Nigel in a black leather jacket and catch Will’s incredibly premature departure. :frowning:

Why are they doing a rerun?

I think the show is only 1 hour today (since they’re down to 6 dancers), so I think the new ep. doesn’t start until 9pm and they’re using the previous hour for a recap…?

Yes, that is correct.

And I wish to state officially that I am a Joshua convert. He and Katee are my two favorites at this point.

Totally agree with you twickster Josh and Katee were the best by far last night. I thought their paso doble was the best dance of the evening. Also, Josh’s solo was the most outstanding. I wasn’t that big of a fan of Chelsie’s before, but she really impressed me last night. Even Mark was really good last night.

I’m with the judges on this one, voting from here on is incredibly difficult. Based on last night’s performances I would say Twitch and Chelsie are going home. Even though Chelsie danced well she just didn’t partner as well and the hip hop was a little lacking in the technical dept. although very entertaining. Courtney has a chance of going home, not because of her performances, but because it seems Contemporary and Jazz are not styles that are particularly poplular with the audiences.

Can’t believe we’re down to the last week already. Am I wrong or didn’t the season last longer in past seasons? I thought they only eliminated one dancer at a time for the last several weeks, but I have been known to recreate the past before and it wouldn’t surprise me if I had done it again.

Not one bad routine, per se, though I thought the paso doble was pretty tacky, in all honesty. The Napoleon/Tabitha routine was as intelligent and entertaining as I’ve come to expect from them.

Chelsie has grown on me the past two weeks. Great technique and good personality. I want to see her in the finale together with Katee.

I think Mark and K has had their runs, good as they are I think they are the weakest of the remaining six.

I don’t think so. I go on vacation the first or second week of August, and that doesn’t usually conflict with the end of the SYTYCD season finale.

The lack of Will surely felt strange, by the way. Not that the remaining dancers weren’t good or great, but you could feel the emptiness.

I sure am glad they didn’t use it as an excuse to bring back the unbearable Debbie Allen, though. Whew!

I think Courtney is going home, but Chelsie has her work cut out for her going up against Katee. My wife commented (quite adroitly) that we know Chelsie is well-schooled, and it always shows, which is why she’s always good but never in a particularly surprising way. But Joshua and Katee (who don’t have the same extent of formal training) never fail to impress because they deliver the goods in ways that are consistently unexpected–and they’ve shown they can partner with anyone and be great.

I still don’t care for Mark much (I thought his solo was a joke) but still think his soft-edged man/boy appeal may be enough to rake in the teeny-bopper votes. But Twitch obviously has appeal and his Bottom 2 appearance last week may have been a wake-up call to his fans to not take his presence for granted. That said, which ever one sticks it still has an uphill battle against the enormously appealling Joshua.

I wouldn’t have a problem with a Joshua vs. Katee showdown, and if that were to happen, either winner would be fine (though he would actually get my vote).

What was the deal with Joshua’s teeth?

Apparently he just got braces removed today. I’d never noticed them before, so either they weren’t that obvious, or I’m not that observant.

Ah, that’s right, he did have braces.

Thanks.

I’m surprised how weak most of their solos are in comparison with the choreographed routines.

They do their own choreography for those – making it clear that choreography really is a skill in and of itself.

I’ve always liked Joshua and Twitch’s routines, have a beginning, middle and end as well as humor/entertainment. Mark has been rather boring until last night where he made excellent use of his suspenders.
The girls, OTOH, are all pretty boring and predictable.

The finale shoud be pretty good. If they do what they did last year each person will dance a duet with each of the other dancers. Not sure if they dance a solo as well. Overall, pleased with finalists but I will miss Will.

I’ll say! A couple weeks back (I’m not an avid viewer of the show) they had a great couple with some really crappy professional choreography. I KNOW the couple would have killed if the choreographer did a better job. It’s really not fair to judge just the dancers. They should be able to vote the choreographers off as well.

I forget everyone’s name, but I hope the girl that did one routine in a bright yellow dress wins.

That’s all I got.

To be honest, I’m a complete idiot when it comes to dancing and choreography; I just watch the show for entertainment value. That said, I’ve seen some choreography that I thought was kind of boring only to hear the judges offer up Gandhi-worthy praise for the choreographer and the routine. I guess what I’m saying is that maybe (I obviously don’t know your background) some of think the choreography sucks when in fact in dance circles it’s quite brilliant. Who knows, I’m babbling.

What was the deal with telling Josh and Katee they were the safe ones, but that it didn’t necessarily mean they had gotten the most votes? Or did I misunderstnad what Kat said?

Kate was basically saying that just because Katee and Josh were first declared they were safe doesn’t mean that they were in first place votes-wise. Courtney and Twitch could have had the most votes. Just trying to keep a poker face, I suppose.

I agree that the solos are boring. The girls are pretty to look at, but spinspinspin leap fall splits blah blah blah…boring, though at least Courtney did more than that. At least, that’s what I remember thinking at the time. Now, I don’t remember anything about her solo. Twitch’s solos at least play off the music and are memorable that way–I mean seriously, he danced to “Don’t Worry Be Happy.” How cool is that?
Oh, and edited to add: WTF was up with Lady Gaga holding the light up to the funky glasses? We started WTF-ing when she put the light-thingy-on-a-stick down…I mean, did what was supposed to happen, happen?? The whole point was to hold a light on a stick to the thing attached to her face? Laaaaaame and weird.
