Is there a new thread or are we staying here? Search sucks because it says that the word “think” is too common, and “so”, “you”, and “can” are all too short.
I really loved the guy with the hat last night. He’s cute and different-looking, and a damn fine dancer. I hope he makes it to the top 20.
I for one vote for having a new thread each week. Maybe with the lack of summer offerings there will be more viewers and hopefully more dopey responses.
I prefer having a single thread, so I can bookmark that. Works fine with Dancing with the Stars, where there are rarely more than 8 or 10 posts a week.
Anyway, good show last night – glad they’re not dragging out the auditions interminably. Was thrilled and delighted that two tap-dancers made it to Vegas!
The pretty blonde chick with the short cut (taught by her mother) was amazing!
I can’t believe the guy with the glasses (whose friend injured her knee) made it to Vegas. I thought he was awful. (I’m a big hip-hop fan). I didn’t get him at all.
I loved the bootie shaking girl with the great personality - I hope she takes those ballet classes and comes back in a couple of years.
The Senegalese guy cracked me up!
The minister was weird. Great choreographer though. His partner might have made it on her own.
I enjoyed the roommates - both were pretty talented.
The ending last night proved what a great dancer Travis is. My god, that man can move!
I think one continuing thread for the competition would work fine. If it gets too long, we can always start a new one later.
I also suggest we put ‘SYTYCD’ into the title (as well as spelling it out) so we have a good search word.
Hat guy was great, and it was wonderful to see something different.
He was my favorite as well. I think his name’s Evan.
My favorite dancer who didn’t make it was the guy in the boots and the loincloth. Ok, loincloth probably doesn’t adequately describe what he was wearing, but he wasn’t wearing much. He was just fun to watch–although I agree with the judges that if one is going to dress that scantily, one needs to practice in costume until you can keep leaping wit you clothes having fallen off, or put something under your clothes(I was thinking duct tape) which will keep the clothes from falling off as you jump around.
I also really like Mr. Golden Age of Musical guy–who did make it to Vegas.
I was sort-of impressed by Miss Sparkle the Competition Dancer, who showed up again, with a new, less-posed routine. I was not convinced that she’d made enough changes/improvement to deserve a trip to Vegas, but OK.
Mostly, it wasn’t her dance skills I was impressed by, it was her determination and willingness to make changes. So many people appear convinced that they’ve got what it takes already, and they just don’t have a clue what the judges are looking for. Case in point–Mr. Musical Snapshot guy, who’d met with 5 choreographers, and did a little Flashdance, a little Travolta, a little this and a little that, but didn’t impress the judges, even though his choreographers had assured him that he was plenty good enough for the show.
I’m glad the auditions are almost over! last night I think that my favorite was the girl in the green top. I think she made it through to vegas because she made the effort to change her dance style and changed quickly. That indicates she might do well on the show.
I also, like everyone else, liked hat-man. He was great, and I really enjoy his style.
Oh also can I say helloooo tappers. I thought the first girl, with the suspenders was amazing, but the last one totally blew her out of the water. I think the first one was a little too Gregory Heinsish. The last one seemed to bring her own style.
Finally can I say Brrrrrrr? Remind me to never go to Milwaukee in winter.
Ack! I misread this. I may need to get my glasses adjusted.
Oh, tap-dancers …
I know I’m a cynic, but for a while the show was turning into a “very special episode” of SYTYCD. Maybe they should have a psychologist in the wings instead of Cat Deely. Who, incidentally, is cute as a fuzzy button.
Ok it’s official: I’m retarded. I got an email thing saying there was a new post in this thread and I saw the title had changed and went “huh? But it’s season 4…?” I had sent the OP a private message suggesting a title change earlier today, see, and so I went back and looked at my PM out box and sure enough, the title as it appears up there is exactly what I suggested it be changed to. So anyway, don’t blame the OP or the mods, it was my typo. Sowwy. :X
Okay, I remember Sabra and Benjy. Who was the other previous winner?
By the way, I’ve decided to recap the episodes this season on my website. It’s an experiment. They’re here. I am trying to include photos for as much as I can.
Tristan, did you ever find out the name of the song that Gev auditioned to? I’ve been poking around on the SYTYCD boards and it appears to have been by Lupe Fiasco, featuring Unkle and called Hello Goodbye (Uncool). At least, I hope I have that right in the fact that those posts were put up on the same day you asked here.
Regardless, maybe that’ll send you in the right direction.
Season 2 was Travis, the blonde in the red dress that performed as a joke at the end of auditions. He was truly fabulous.
I really like the way they put togther the preseason of this. They showed a lot of the auditions, including a few of the truly dreadful dancers for laugh value – but didn’t linger on the freak show aspects. They managed to put together stories on a few auditioners, including some who didn’t even make it to Vegas. They managed to find the stories that were there as the audition process developed – the twin brothers, the pageant competitor, the guy whose mom died (whom we glimpsed briefly last night when he didn’t make it to the 20) – and they showed us what happened with those folks, briefly and succinctly. They gave us a nice two-hour show about what happened in Vegas, showing some dancing and telling some stories. And they left us with 20 competitors who are all serious dancers, which we know from watching the process by which they got there – but who we don’t necessarily know huge amounts about. Now we get to know these competitors and watch what they can do.
blissful sigh
I love this show.
Moderator: I’m told this is Season 4, not Season 5, so I have amended the title of the thread.
The whole time blonde tap girl was blathering on with her “explanation” or whatever it was, I was trying to send her mental messages to shutupshutupshutupshutupshutup you’re not helping youself so just shutup shutup shutup… but it didn’t work. Man, I loved her audition but I so wanted her to go after that.
Gene Kelly-hat guy must have really sucked to be sent home, because I thought what little we saw of him was great.
The best friend girls at the end, Kristin (I think) and the other one, are so goofy/annoying. I like Kristin better (the one that made it, if that’s her name) but she already has two big fat strikes against her. I think she’ll be out in the first round of cuts after this point.
Glad Twitch made it through, hope he goes far.
Really surprised they kept Gev over the other guy- thought he was very impressive.
I like Debbie Allen alright, as she seems like a softer version of Phylicia Rashad. She’s very maternal and alternates appropriately from “Suck it up and shut your mouth.” and “Put on some clothes. Seriously.” to “I believe in you and am proud of you.” Very cool.
However. She and Mia Michaels lose me when they start talking about dancers finding their truth or throwing out words like “organic,” I start wondering if they’re waiting for the Hale-Bopp comet to arrive. There must be some good hallucinogens in the granola they’re eating.
Nigel Lythgoe continues to impress me. He also has a paternal air about him, being somewhat tough but very fair.
The new judges seem green yet a refreshing change from Mary’s shrill delivery. I like how the new girl judge (sorry, don’t know her name) delivers the news in a concise, upbeat version. I much prefer it to Mary’s sadistic method of making them think they’re going home and then telling them they’re in.
