Thirded, or 19th or whatever, I can’t stand Mia. Huge fake and her “raw” “organic” and all BS drives me bonkers. And yes, the whole snarky snotty “life isn’t all about smiling and sunshine all the time” crap she did to ( I think it was Chelsea Hightower) was the turning point from annoyance to outright dislike for her on my part. I mean that from a woman who only sees life as dark and angry all of the time? Still, so far she seems to be behaving herself fairly well, maybe she worked out her demons last year while on leave or whatever.
At least Mary is fun. She was there during some of the auditions though, so maybe she’ll be back. I sure do like Adam Shankman though.
Oh, and I DO hope they’ll keep the L’il C visits to a minimum, I’d almost rather see Mia than that poor excuse for a thesaurus.
I adore Sonja though. She’s what Mia wishes she could be, just the right amount of twisted, without losing the fun factor.
I thought the allstars all stick around and go back into the hat to potentially be picked again in the future, but I don’t know for sure.
I forgot to mention earlier, I’ve never seen Justin Beiber before but there’s something just wrong about a prepubescent kid whose voice hasn’t changed yet asking for someone to love. Especially when he’s singing it alongside an adult. It’s oogy.
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. I can’t imagine Anya always being paired with Kent, for example. I think they’re just acting as a permanent roster of partners that they will continue to mix and match accordingly (or at least that’s what I hope).
However, given the results of the bottom 3, it would appear the male All-Stars in general may start running out of things to do pretty quickly.
No, they’ve made it clear that they’ll mix and match the All-Stars every week – but they have to get rid of one now, and, if it’s not the partner of the person who’s gone, how do they decide who to get rid of? Have they explained that yet?
My guess would be that they’ve picked All Stars from every genre so that they can be used as needed on every genre. So even when they get down to, say, 5 people, the contestants are all doing 2 dances apiece in 10 different styles and will need the services of all the All Stars.
Naw, I think they were going to switch out allstars each week. I do like seeing some of my faves back, but I definitely don’t like that only 10 newbies get the chance.
I’m not digging the way they’re doing it this year. Yeah, I love seeing Neil and Pasha Lauren again, but I miss the partners getting judged together. I miss the chemistry building. I miss the love and tears and hugs when they’re forced to split up. I’m just not digging it this season.
Well…er, um. Yeah, they all danced, didn’t they? No real standouts for me.
It seemed to me that overall, compared to last week, the judges dialed way back on the gushing over the guys AND paid a lot more compliments to the girls. Maybe this was justified on the quality of the dancing (I’m far from a connoseur) but I also have the cynical feeling that this is at least partially out of fear that all the women will be voted out first and then they won’t be able to use any of their male Allstars.
Nothing I loved last night, nothing I hated … some good dancing, a fine use of two hours of my life, but nothing I felt compelled to comment on (or snark about). Other than Mia’s bitching about costumes – WTF, lady, the dancers aren’t responsible for the costumes they’re stuck in, you can’t delete points for that.
I didn’t get the love for Melinda last night at all. I agreed with Mia … the dress was a distraction. Looked like someone attacked half of an 80s prom dress with fake flowers and a glue gun. I thought Melinda was weak … no jump or spin ability at all.
Kent is adorable! He just needs to figure out that he’s gay.
Lauren really upped her game. Last week it was “cheerleader smile” and this week it was really deeply emotional for her.
Ashley is fantastic.
Adechike certainly worked harder on connecting with his partner. I totally believed the connection … at times, at least.
Krumping is just … meh. Sorry Billy!
Robert needed more hip action in his Argentine tango.
I’m never blown away by Broadway, but Alex is friggin’ amazing.
I know I’m forgetting a few people … maybe there’s a reason why?
Very lackluster by-the-numbers choreography last night, I zoned off through many of the dances.
I did like Nigel’s calling-out of one of the choreographers (forget his name, the young NKotB-looking guy) about not adhering to genre. Lyrical jazz with nothing jazzy about it, and turned in a straight contemporary number instead. Unless it’s jazz because we weren’t seeing the steps that weren’t there…
Christina did the Paso Doble with Pasha, which I thought was only meh, but the judges seemed to like it (she was still better than Robert was at the tango, though; man Anya has yet to meet her match with the Boys from this season!)
Jesse did the Bollywood number, and like Kent, he scores by force of personality. I thought he did a pretty good job, and really got into it. His smile is irresistable in its genuineness.
B-way is usually the kiss of death, but Alex did a great job with his synch precision with Lauren, so I hope he’s still safe. I think Melinda is on the block, since her contemporary was the most dull of the 3 (yeah, Travis, you cheated on your “jazz” number). Lauren and Adechike really stepped up this week so will get points for vast improvement. Billy’s may be vulnerable because he was only OK, but I have a hard time seeing any of the guys going anytime soon. Could it be 3 girls (w/Lauren as safe) in the final 3 again? Wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
Took notes on the dances, but there really isn’t that much to take the time to comment on.
Enjoyed the enthusiasm that Jose showed in the Bollywood number if not so much the technique. He really is stepping it up for someone with no formal training.
I really liked Alex’s Fosse routine. Captivating to watch from start to finish.
Lauren much better this week as was Christina, but still not something I’d care to watch again.
Bottom 2: Adechicke and Melinda with Billy a distant 3rd.
As far as the judges go, I’m just not sure where they’re coming from. Last week superlatives were flying all over the place, and this week even the really good routines were being nit picked.
Hopefully next week will be an improvement.
I thought that earth dance or whatever was really boring, I lost interest half-way through.
I enjoyed Travis’ piece, but yeah, it wasn’t jazz at all. I wonder if that’s going to effect how much he’s used on the show? I hope not, as he’s one of my favorite choreographers.
I liked the way that the lyrical hip-hop was danced, I just really didn’t like the song choice. It was way too distracting.
