The judges were certainly doing their best to make sure it’s Snow and Allan. Esp. now that it’s only two pairs up for elimination, so the anti-Allan vote won’t be split this time. I like Allan just fine, but it’s definitely time for him to go – let’s watch the folks who really can dance, shall we?
I don’t know…I actually thought Allen did an ok job this week, with a style that not only is very different for him, but one that doesn’t suite his body type at all. From last weeks elimination, I do think that craig did the weekest solo performance, so I’m not upset that he went, although I don’t think craig is all that much better. I actually thought Snow did a fairly good job this week as well, and it was telling to me that her partner said that she was all for trying new things and tricks.
Still enjoying the hell out of this show though.
Of course I meant Jamile
Yeah, it was okay, and god bless him, but he’s not really a dancer, and the time has come to concentrate on the people who are.
I don’t think it was any better/worse than the ‘rock and roll’ number. While the other couple did a bunch of flashy moves, there were several places where it both looked forced, and that had obviouse misses. But they’re thin and cute, and therefore have to stay.
That said, I will give credit to the head judge that has always been forthcoming that they are casting a show, and that to an extent looks will tell. A point that he re-itterated when he talked about how cute sexy Melody probably was safe from elimination. There’s a reason she always wears those tiny shorts ya know.
Aha! I knew I recognized him from somewhere. Thanks.
It has to be Ron Montez:

I agree with your comments on Hip Hop. That style makes me cringe. When you compare it to something as beautiful and elegant as a waltz or as fun as the Disco number Nick and Kamilah did, the style just doesn’t work as a dance form.

Moderator comment: the original title of this thread was set to a specific week. Twickster requested (and the Moderators agree) that it doesn’t seem worth a separate thread each week, so we’ll just leave this one with the show title and no date.
This is on against The Cut’s finale, and I’m VCRless at the moment, so I’m going to miss tonight’s show. Would someone be so kind as to post the names of the bootees (hee, she made a funny) when they happen? TIA.
Tonight’s bootees: Snow and Allen. Whew!
Tonight’s 4 on the chopping block: Melody & Ryan, Jamile and Destini.
I was glad to hear Nigel give some credit to the choreography being lousy and not the dancers in some pairings.
I have a question about this show. Do the contestants know who’s getting booted before the show?
The reason I ask is because they always do the booting before the pairs start dancing. Since the contestants have to be paired up and have their dances choreographed before the show, it seems to me that they would have to know who’s getting booted in order to avoid drawing a partner who might get kicked and in order to prevent the bootees from wasting their time working on routines that theu will never be able to perform on the show.
Does the show itself have an explanation for why no pre-paired couples ever get broken up by the booting process or is it just tacitly aknowledged that the contestants already know who’s going before the pairs are even drawn?
Dio – see SBS’s post #7 above – it’s a hypothesis that seems to fit the facts pretty well.
So did Allan get all emotional about being booted? And did Snow flounce?
I guess I should have read the thread before I posted. SBS’s hypothesis made sense.
Allan got emotional but also said that his getting booted meant nothing compared to the events on the Gulf Coast (kind of classy, actually). Snow was not that flouncy. She took it pretty well and the judges were ver complimentary.
This show was way more fun then The Cut.
I really liked the dancing tonight. Allen deserves to be gone even if I’ll miss snow. He was way out of his league. The remaining dancers are a fairly impressive bunch.
The audience was chanting something just before the first of the solo ‘save me’ dances – it sort of sounded like ‘Bias! Bias!’. Or is it my imagination? They did end up with all the ‘minority’ dancers on the block this week. I think Ryan/Melody clearly were bottom, but I’m not so sure on Destini & Jamile.
The way I would rank them:
Blake & Ashli, Samba and Lyrical, both excellent
Nick & Kamilla, Tango good, Pop very good.
Artem & Melissa, Pop average, Quick Step very good
Jamile & Destini, Quick Step poor, Hip Hop excellent
Ryan & Melody, Lyrical poor, Foxtrot average to poor.
I could easily see Artem & Melissa being put on the block instead. The only reason I can think of to pick Jamile & Destini instead was that the dance they excelled in was both dancers forte to begin with, so maybe the judge discounted their excellence a bit for that whereas Melissa was outside her native style both times. <shrug>
I thought they were shouting, “Ryan, Ryan.”
I agree, they were shouting “Ryan, Ryan!” Speaking of Ryan, why was he mouthing “no” when the host gave the phone number for his votes?
Now that I’m thinking about it, I agree that Melissa and Artem should have been on the chopping block, but I’m having a hard time with that. I think Melissa is great, I think Artem could go. I think Jamile and Destini’s hip hop was amazing, dare I say freakin awesome…but I’m just overall unimpressed with Jamile and want him to go.
I’d like to see Jamile go and Ryan stay. I’m undecided about the girls, but I think Destini’s solo wasn’t enough to keep her on.
Ah, ‘Ryan’ – yes, that was probably it. (My hearing is gradually going.)
Did anyone else notice: all the teams this week were the same as last EXCEPT that the partners of the ones booted were matched up. What are the odds against THAT, I wonder?
I’m not sure how I feel about this week. While watching the couples dance, there were several pairs where I saw that the couples were obviously out of step for a moment or two, or out of synce. Yet none of the judges commented on it. I think that the judges tend to ‘like’ certain dancers, and dance couples and therefore overlook those tiny little mistakes. I actually thought the lyrical performance done by Blake and Ashli wasn’t actually that good. Yes it was technically good, but I didn’t like the performance that much.
And what happened to all couples that chose a style having the same choreography? The Tango that Nick and Kamilla got was barely a Tango…same with one of the other dances.
The dancers that are lyrical and hip hop have a huge advantage. Those styles may have some different moves, but for the most part it’s the same general thing. With ballroom the dances that it could be are numerouse, and each one is slightly different. So that makes it much harder to learn in a week. I think Blake has gotten lyrical just about every time. Taking a quick look through the recaps, he’s only had to dance twice to something outside his style, that gives him a huge advantage over someone like Ryan and Allen that have had to go outside thier styles pretty much every time.
I missed the first half of the show. I’m glad Ryan got to stay and I hope he gets to stay a little longer. But it doesn’t seem like he or Jamile will last much longer against the professionally trained dancers. But I think if this show was about finding self-taught dancers and seeing who did the best learning new styles, Ryan would win. Jamile hasn’t impressed me as much.
The judges have pretty much said that it will be Nick vs. Blake for the guys. But for some reason both these guys irritate the hell out of me. Blake bugs me because we have already seen what an egotistical jerk he can be and I cannot believe his apology for that is sincere. And Nick seems like a Blake clone. Blake is also getting a lot of breaks, same partner for a couple episodes and picking lyrical (his forte) several times. If it ends up with one of the professional guys winning, I’d rather it be Artem. Maybe a girl will win, but none of them have really impressed me either. It seems like as long as they are dancing as couples the guys will be more obvious.
I wonder if they continue to dance as couples up to the very end or if at some point they split up into solos?
