Just watched the trailer.
It is basically bizarro Brokeback Mountain.

“I don’t wish I didn’t know how to start you.”
I thought it was because calling it gomorrhea would have carried a negative connotation.
I preferred the book.
I’d see it, if only because seeing a city get destroyed by meteors and shit would be really frickin’ cool. Hell, get Roland Emmerich to direct it and I’d pay for a theater ticket for that.
And besides, it couldn’t be worse than Armageddon, could it?
Edit: On second thought, I just went to the website. It’s just some Fireproof-esque Christian movie. Damn it, I was hoping for an actual depiction of Sodom and Gomorrah getting trashed.
Darn I read you too fast, and saw meteors of shit, which would show God having a mean streak of humour. I’ve always known about his mean streak, still waiting on the humour. Platypus dont count.
Should anyone tell them that the story of Sodom and Gomorrah didn’t have anything to do with homosexuality? Or just let it be a surprise?

If it’s a fake movie, it’s a big missed opportunity. I mean, incidents like Haggart and Rekers show that there’s a veritable Craig’s-list of potential customers for a hot-and-heavy gay movie tailored to the right-wing market.
As the one of the actors got credit elsewhere, I tend to think that the trailer was “the movie” and full length :), like Homestar Runner did with Peasant’s Quest.
From the Previous TV Tropes link:
The term “sodomy” itself is not homsexual-specific, since it can also refer to oral sex.
Which only homos do, God fearing men hump the way Jesus would have wanted, reverse cowgirl.
I poked around some of the forums, why don’t believers understand that quoting the Bible to support their argument to nonbelievers is like quoting Dr. Seuss.
I really liked this posters comment:
Why doesn’t the same studio do David & Jonathan? Or The Beloved Disciple?

It can refer to lots of other things, too. Americans (and Britons) were too prudish to actually discuss the sex acts they found horrifying so they referred to them as “unspeakable acts”, “crimes against nature”, sodomy, and things like that.

Sure, but that was later (I think originally ‘sodomy’ referred to a laundry list of non-specific sex acts). My understanding is that the ‘sin’ in the Sodom and Gomorrah story that the cities were punished for was failure to respect hospitality rules and customs, the violation of which (across the board by the citizens of both cities) meant they needed to be nuked from orbit, since that’s the only way to REALLY be sure you get all the bad guys. It had nothing to do with sex at all, homo-sexual or otherwise. The homo-sexuality angle is, afaik, a more modern (Christian) interpretation of the original story.

Watched the preview and my first thought was the “actors” should join some sort of 12-step group to get over their delusion that they can actually, you know, act.
Actors Anonymous? The real AA?

I don’t recall if we’ve already discussed this. It being a zombie thread and all.
The consensus among the great scholars of Judaism has always been that the two cities were destroyed for being without compassion, for not being their brothers’ keeper. There are ancient folktales about just how cruel and inhumane the people were to strangers and to each other.
Yeah, I don’t know if it was discussed previously either. I didn’t know at first that it was a zombie thread. I had always heard that the ‘sin’ in the S&G story was due to the towns people insisting Lot bring out his guests so that they could know them…which broke several hospitality taboos (and which was why Lot was offering his daughters in exchange, because of the sacred rights of guests in a mans house).
Admittedly, it’s been a long time, so I could be getting all or most of the details confused or even wrong. I just remember that the original tale and interpretation didn’t have anything to do with homo-sexuality as the basis for the ‘sin’, that this was a later Christian addition.

Saw the trailer, am reminded of Making Love, about a vaguely similar situation (married guy realizes he’s gay, wife is… upset) only with less bible stuff and more Kate Jackson.
