Above are snippets of the de Mello interview.
This kind of sums up the bad situation the US army is in Iraq. Not matter what the good will of either young soldiers or "happy" Iraqi might have... the situation is unsustainable. Nervous and trigger quick American soldiers are in the middle of people that resent their presence... that speak a language they dont understand and have a culture they dont comprehend. (Or dont want to ?)
How do you Bush supporters feel that there is a viable solution to the current situation ? The UN knew that soldiers werent good peacekeepers. The UN had experience. The USA is a negative on both.
Thats pretty much it msmith, what else could be done? At some point you have to hand it over to the Iraqis, right? The real question is when because if you do it too soon the country falls into lawlessness and we get another Saddam shortly after. One thing is for sure, nobody is leaving until Saddam is dead or captured.
