Some Chicago guys dropped by...

…to see another Chicago guy today.

I’m glad the Cubbies made it to DC for their winner’s visit to the White House while there was still a Prez with Chicago ties on hand to greet them.

(This isn’t a statement of political bias, but I will admit to a strong regional bias.)

Congrats again, Cubbies.

I hear the President is a White Sox fan, though. He’s a Southsider, while Michelle grew up on the North Side and is the real Cubs fan in the family.

Michelle grew was born at Provident Hospital, grew up in South Shore, went to grammar school at 73rd and Jeffrey, and high school at Whitney Young (Near West Side). She may be a Cub fan, but not from growing up on the North Side. She is more of a South Sider, IMHO, than Barack.

I’ll yield to your knowledge.

President Obama is a total White Sox fan. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out that he was wearing some hidden Sox gear. I’m a White Sox fan, too. Congratulations Cubs, from me and the President!

You are right, though, in that she is a Cubs fan.

I grew up a South Side Cubs fan simply because the games were always on (day baseball, WGN) and I was fascinated by the strange ball-and-bat game as a kid. So I totally relate to the idea of coming home at 3:30 to catch the game (although, in my case, I’d be home by about 2:15 or 2:30 or something around then.)

My grandfather-in-law lived on the North Side (Portage Park neighborhood) for his entire adult life. He started out as a Cubs fan, but he worked for many years as a machinist, in a factory where there was a rivalry between the Cubs fans and the Sox fans (most of whom were, not surprisingly, South Siders). He found the Cubs fans to be obnoxious, and he switched loyalties to the Sox as a result.

When I got to know him, many years after his retirement from that factory, he was still a loyal Sox fan, and still hated the Cubs.

Learning that Mrs. Obama is a Cubs’ fan is the first bad mark against her in my book, says the still bitter Cleveland Indians’ fan.
