So last night there was the premiere of Irrational, which seems to be a typical ‘amateur with a special skill helps the police’ type scripted show. And I’ve also seen commercials for another new show starting later this week called Found. Which based on nothing but the commercial is about a group that look for people who have 'fallen through the cracks and brings them home." Again, looks like actors with a script, not some type of reality thing. Also there was another one, but I can’t recall any details about it right now.
So, where are these new shows coming from? Maybe they were intended to be summer replacement series that then got held to insure they would have SOMETHING beside ‘sorta celebrities do some sort of reality stunts’ kind of things? Or maybe they were made previous years and never made the cut onto the schedule? Or imports from another country?
Some networks are importing stuff from Canada, the UK or elsewhere. Some are airing stuff on their broadcast networks that previously aired on streaming services (Yellowstone, for example). And there’s lots of “unscripted” shows, like the six-thousandth season of Survivor.
And I’ve heard some of the streaming services have shows in the bag that were completed before the strike, or at least finished shooting before then, which they’ve just been waiting to release.
I suspect they had these shows in the can before the strike, and held off releasing them until some resolution was reached. The show was greenlit by NBC in Dec 2022 and the pilot was filmed in May/June 2022, so they weren’t directly impacted by the strike.
I watched the first episode. I found it interesting though I had to turn on captions a few times to understand the dialogue. I’ll watch the next few to see if it’s worthwhile.
