Are administators…
[ul][li]employees of The Chicago Reader[/li][li]friends of other Admins or[/li][li]Just lucky souls who were around on day 1?[/ul][/li] -
What’s up with all of these “Voted most…” awards I see in Dopers’ sig lines? When are elections?

Red folders indicate that the thread in question “Contains new posts since the last time you logged on.” When do I log off? I usually keep the MB window open in the background. Does this mean that new posts’ arrivals are hidden from me?

Is it bad that I use my back button to get from a specific thread back to the list? Does that mean that I am missing new posts b/c I am caching pages?
I can handle #2 easily (I think)
Every now and then we do a little poll (all in good fun) where you vote for your favorite ______. Highly unscientific, but it is still pretty neat to see your name in lights. Heck, I won 3 things, and was pretty happy about it.
Go to this site for all of the results.
We went right out there and refused to do accoustical versions of the electrical songs that we had refused to record in the first place.
I think I can answer #3:
“The last time you logged on” was the last time you accessed the main SDMB page, either from clicking the “Message boards” link on the SD home page or by accessing it through a link from somewhere else or a bookmark. Or at least, that’s how it works out with me.
As for #4, you shouldn’t be missing any posts, but you might want to refresh the forum list when you think you’re done reading, so you can see any new threads that have been added and also see if any of the threads you already read have been posted to after you read them.
Let me tackle the first one.
Administrations and moderators are not paid employees of the Chicago Reader.
I hope I’m friends with all the folks that work here . . . and the ones that don’t work here, too.
And yes, most of us have been around since the early days of the Straight Dope on AOL. Just lucky, I guess.

Thanks, Tub. But where is “here?” Is there a SD Headquarters somewhere? Does Manhattan share a cubicle with you? Or are you just someone (like the rest of us) logging in when your boss isn’t looking and catching up from home at night?
