National Geographic is involved in bringing the treasures here. It is the first time since the 70’s that they have come to the US. Exhibits include:

It will be going to LA, Ft. Lauderdale, Chicago, and a 4th as-yet-unknown city.
Funky Tut!
I saw the exhibit at the Met in the late '70s – truly amazing. Go if you get the chance!
Alert Steve Martin!
I was very happy to read this news, I work very near the Ft. Lauderdale museum, I can walk over during lunch. Assuming the company still exists next year when the tour comes around, and I’m still there…
…and the line at the museum door isn’t 3 hours or more long. I lived in the DC area the last time Tut came through, and the news stories were all about how people were waiting for hours just to get into the building, and the museum was moving them right along in the exhibit so no one had any chance to linger at a piece.
Yeah, that would suck. I hope that after while the crowds will thin, but who knows.
I am soooo excited! I’m a docent at the Field Museum, where the exhibit will be here in Chicago. If I’m still around at the time (actually, pretty unlikely, but not impossible), I’d absolutely volunteer to work the exhibit. I’d probably have to fight for it, though! Whee! Ohsocool.
#1 reason to volunteer as a docent: no waiting in lines. We have an exhibit on Macchu Piccu right now and I went to see it recently. Huge huge long line to get in.
I cut. Ha!
I saw it at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. Excellent.
Bo-oorrn in Arizona,
Moved to Babylonia…
For those of you who can’t get to the exhibit (oooWEEE, we live in LA and we’re museum members too!) and who have broadband, check out:
You can take a virtual tour of the Valley of the Kings on that site, including the well-known tombs and some that aren’t so well known.
It can be viewed on dialup, but it’s graphics-intensive so be patient. It’s worth the wait.
