The proper plural form is “y’all” when speaking to groups between two and four persons. For groups five or larger in quantity, “All y’all” is correct. When the quantity is unknown, “y’all” is preferred, but not required, to wit; “All y’all” may be used when the unknown quantity can reasonable assumed to be large, as in “All y’all in the audience who are dating your sister…”. In recent years it has become increasingly popular to use “y’all” when referring to just a single person, and Bubba and Jim Bob are taking it under advisement to add this definition in the next edition of the “Big Book O’ Southern Grammer”.

“Y’all” is properly used when talking to asingle person if oyu ar referring to some collective entity that person represents. For example, when talking to shopkeep Bob:
Person: So, how are y’all doing?
Shopkeeper Bob: We’re doin’ great! Business is booming!
Person: And how are you?
Shopkeeper Bob: Prettty blue, Lu’Ellen left me for an Elvis impersonator.
