Some Pinbacks I Just Found Upstairs

While pawing through our ‘junk room’ so I can burn some Mixup Holiday songs on CD for Lady Chance I stumbled across a bag of pinbacks I must have picked up at EveCon last year and forgotten about.

(Pinbacks, for the uninitiated, are those little pins with pictures or messages or whatnot. Popular back in my punk days for attaching to jackets and such. Don’t really see much of them anymore…at least I don’t.)

OK, then. Here’s the one’s I found:

“The three most dangerous things are a programmer witha soldering iron, a manager who codes, and a user who gets ideas.”

“Just once, I’d like to be able to vote for the better of two goods.”

“The trouble with being an adult is that it takes up so much of your time.”

“The result of a youth wasted on gaming and comics.”

“Speak the truth, even if your voice trembles.”

“That which does not kill me makes me stranger.”

“Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.”

“OK, that was a little TOO educational.”

“War is how Americans learn geography.”

“It’s OK to disagree with me. However, once I explain where you’re wrong, you’re supposed to become enlightened and change your mind. Congratulating me on how smart I am is optional.”

“On time. On budget. On Mars. Pick Two.”

Man, I love pinbacks.

Of course, as a sign I’m aging…20 years ago they would have said, “Black Flag” or “Runk Pock” or some such.

I LOVE THE GEOGRAPHY ONE!!! That’s so funny!!!

hehehe… I’m so going to use that quote.

Johnathan Chance a punk?

It’s kismet. We were meant to be friends. Say, howzabout we go hang out in da City this weekend and catch a punk show?

Do you really call those things pinbacks? I see them at science fiction conventions all the time, and I’ve always heard them just called buttons. I suspect you bought them at Nancy Lebovitz’s table in the dealers’ room. She’s the one who sells buttons at most of the cons in the whole Boswash area.

Incidentally, I haven’t been to EveCon for years, but I used to know Bruce Evry (who runs it) very well. In fact, back in 1986 and 1987, I lived in a house with (among others) Bruce and Cheryl (his then girlfriend but now wife).

That’s cool, Wendell. Yes, these I bought from Nancy. I just wish she’d make some smaller ones. She’s addicted to these 3 inch wide ones. Proper pinbacks should be one inch in diameter.

Yes, I call them pinbacks but I understand ‘button’. I forget where I first heard it but it’s the proper name for them.

And Gingy? What say we do that. I know a great show happening this weekend at Fletchers.

And everyone thinks we’re kidding.

286,000 miles per second. Not just a good idea; It’s the Law. (Harkens back to the 55mph campaign of the '70s, although I got the badge in the '80s.)

Have a nice day, Asshole.

Too stiff to care.
