IE 8 will run on 32 bit platform just fine. That’s what mine is. Go here:
Investigate thoroughly all the comparisons, etc.
You can run both versions, but IE8 has an option to run itself as an older version, so two versions are not necessary.

Quasimodem: if you’re switching to a new browser, you can also try ditching Internet Explorer and using Firefox as your main browser. Firefox has many useful extensions (two have already been mentioned in this thread.)
Cool – thanks for the recommendation.
Quasi – definitely consider moving over to Firefox. I did a year ago after a long and ugly episode when IE abruptly stopped working on my machine, and find FF to be way more versatile, user-friendly, and problem-free.
Wow. The IE versus Firefox thing is becoming the new PC versus Mac thing.
Lib:
“Installation does not support your architecture” Vista 32/64 bit", is the message I got when I tried to download IE8.
Twicks, et al. The guy who worked on my computer last year installed Firefox, but apparently Windows and Firefox fon’t “get along”, and I kep having freezing issues.
Thanks

Sorry, Quasimodem, can’t help you with your computer issues (e.g. freezing with Firefox), but I’ll just point out that nowadays you can download for free any one of the contenders from the five major players in the browser market:
Firefox (from Mozilla), Chrome (from Google), Internet Explorer (from Microsoft), Safari (from Apple), Opera (from Opera)
and choose which one works best for you.
I use one of them as my main browser, and switch to another one when needed if I have problems with my main browser.
