Sorry to say, but the missus and I actually like the duck, especially the roller coaster commercial (where, for those who haven’t seen it, every time the duck tries to say “AFLAC” the coaster takes a dive and everybody, including the duck, screams at the tip of their lungs. At the end, the duck staggers away from the car).
There are plenty of annoying commercials out there, especially those that have little if anything to do with the product being sold. In fact, I think I’ll start my own Pit thread on those. The duck works for me, though. I remember the product, I remember what the product is, and I remember it fondly as I think of the humorous commercials.
Ok, add my name to the list of people who despise both the AFLAC duck and the Verizon guy.
Can we add the Arby’s talking oven mitt to the list? Seriously, how stoned do you have to be to think that a talking oven mitt is going to help you sell sandwiches?
Have you seen any of those giant sized ones they have? One of them was sent to my work by mistake. It was about 3’ long and about 2’ tall. We had fun playing with it until the boss made us put it back it the box so it could be sent to the right place.
I’m gone for 7 months and the first thread I post to is about the AFLAC duck. Well, things are back to normal.
I like the duck–it’s that Arby’s oven mitt who must be flame-broiled until he shuts up.
Of course, there can never be anything in a commercial that’s one-millionth as annoying as the Energizer Bunny. I’ve hated that critter for over a dozen years now.
The early duck ads were the best…the series has sort of run out of gas. I DO like the Yogi Berra ad, though…the expression of slack-jawed amazement on the duck’s face as he tries to parse Yogi’s brilliance is spot-on!
The Verizon guy and the Arby’s mitt, on the other hand…
