I would pay $10 to see this movie.
Like someone mentioned above, this was just a test run. No actual movie yet.
I’m torn on this. I think it has potential, an interesting twist in that it is much more realistic but at the same time the absurdity is what made Mortal Kombat so awesome! Ice shooting out of a person’s hands? Done. Laser beams shooting out of some thief’s eye? On it. Helicopter kicks mid-air? Yup, got 'em.
Honestly, I enjoyed the first movie. It was mindless entertainment. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart since I was around 9 or 10 when that movie came out and an avid MK player (I no longer keep up since it seems like there’s a million new characters and stories.) I saw my favorite characters come to life and fight it out in a movie! As cheesy as it was, I thought it did a good job of sticking to the game.
The second movie however, was a flat-out monstrosity. Lots of potential, but wasted on terrible acting and graphics.
If this new clip was made into a movie, I’d probably go see it. Not because I’m sure that I would like it, but because I’m curious as to whether or not it could actually work the way they’re trying to spin it.

I agree with nikonikosuru above me in that the “realism” in the movie might take away from the fun. Making reptile neither a ninja or a, you know, reptile? I don’t know. Baraka is an interesting enough take, not my favorite but I will take it.
I do love the prospect of a fan favorite (Scorpion) being a main character and a good guy. Mostly because I loved Scorpion and am excited to see him as a main character. No Liu Kang? Awesome.
But they killed Johnny Cage before the movie even started!
Yeah, they did that in MK2 as well 
Speaking of Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 9 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 was officially announced this morning.
The game’s debut trailer is pretty neat too.

As for the proof-of-concept clip, it looks interesting. It’s as if Michael Jai White and co had a discussion a year ago that’s similar to the “give a TV series a BSG treatment” thread from here and applied it to Mortal Kombat.
The type of fantasy and lore from the 90s is lost to the 90s, so this gritty action/sci-fi is the measure of the times until the next style-du-jour is introduced.
I’m interested to see how this turns out.

The girl characters look skankier and skankier with each new game that comes out.
