First off, I’m really enjoying this show- I didn’t expect to; I mean, how do you turn the book into an ongoing series, without it being completely stupid? They managed, though- and it seems like every episode is better than the previous.
One complaint I have, though… why the heck doesn’t Johnny tell his friends about his visions of Stillman’s future? I mean, everyone Johnny knows is completely convinced of his vision’s veracity. Rev. Purdy absolutely should be told- he’s the one who’s most convinced that Johnny’s abilities were given to him for a reason, and is in the best position to prevent the future Johnny’s seen. He’s also the one who’s most politically immune- he’s got friends in high places.
Judging by the last couple of episodes, I’m convinced that Johnny can’t be killed- any chain of events which lead to his death are so strong that he sees them coming from miles away. The only way he can be killed, I’d say, is if he willingly sacrifices himself to save those around him- which, of course, is perfectly in line with the book, but which would mean the end of the series.
Who’s the guy in the raincoat, out in the woods? I’m thinking it might be a future (or possible future) Johnny. This latest episode (The Mountain) had a decent closeup, and it sure kinda looked like Johnny, though with some sort of burn or scar on his face.
I think things are coming to a head with Walt- but I don’t think they’ll resolve the situation. Stable relationships are boring, and thematically speaking, Johnny has to be alone, never letting anyone get too close.
