Can we name all the movies, TV shows, cartoons and what-not that was used? I know I hear Gandalf’s voice. He does not belong.
Hubby insists that, except for Superman, Marvel would kick DC’s ass. I dunno about that. I’m sure Batman could beat Iron Man – if he were prepared. Hulk and Thor could double team Superman. The video shows Hulk fighting Wonder Woman. What a terrible mis-match. Wonder Woman would be paste. A better match up would be WW and the Black Widow.
Soooo, does anyone know how many rival movie studios need to be beat into submission in order to get this movie made?
Wonder Woman would shred Black Widow, if the characters were presented in any way analogous to their comic-book portrayals.
But this is a pretty cool video mashup, I admit.
Wonder Woman is on the same level as Superman - slightly less powerful, but a better fighter, and without the weaknesses.
Hulk would be a good challenge for her. Black Widow wouldn’t even be a speedbump.
Batman would be better paired with Captain America (as he was in the Marvel vs DC comics - that fight ended up a tie), or Hawkeye (limiting the choices to people who exist in the MCU*). Iron Man could take him.
(Wondie is also currently the goddess of War in the comics, and for a decade or so before that, she was the Goddess of Truth.)
Although the guy who made the trailer didn’t, using Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, all of whom have their movie rights with other companies (Sony and Fox). [Edit - oh, hey, and there’s Ghost Rider, whose film rights are also not owned by Marvel.]
Yeah - Black Widow is definitely capable of punching well above her weight class, but her big problem is that she’s got nothing that can really hurt Wonder Woman. Her stingers would definitely stun, but that’s not going to do the job. WW is close to Superman in strength and toughness. Not quite as much as either and not as fast, but has better pure martial skills and is more likely to use weaponry. I agree that Hulk would definitely beat Wonder Woman, although it wouldn’t be easy or quick.
Batman probably wouldn’t beat Iron Man. He might well be able to beat Captain America (although THAT would a fight for the ages!) and I’d actually give him good odds versus the Hulk, who is vulnerable to agility and cunning. I also say that Tony Stark beats the pants off Green Lantern. In fact, he probably beats the pants off any two Green Lanterns together, as they tend to be a dimwitted bunch.
I say Thor takes Superman, but it takes so long that the rest of the fight is done by the end. Superman could beat Hulk with all his other powers (although the Hulk would be a hair tougher and stronger.)
I can’t help but mention the classic fistfight between Bruce Wayne and Steve Rogers, where the world’s greatest detective promptly realizes the blond guy is countering every move he makes, and vice versa, which means, uh, hey, how about we knock this off and shake hands and team up, Captain America?
I was going to mention that, too. As I recall it, Bruce realizes that Steve is just a smidge better than he is, and would probably win eventually if they allowed the fight to go on to its natural conclusion.
The “let them fight” was Ken Watanabe from the recent Godzilla movie. The DC heroes lining up was from the game “Injustice: gods among us”. There was also several scenes from the DC universe online cinematic trailer used. There was also a small flash from a fan made Deadpool vs Batman video.
Why are they fighting each other? Can’t they join together against a powerful mutual adversary?
Beyond that, the vid is a lot of rapid cut clips from Marvel and DC films, that sorta makes it look like various Marvel characters are running at, or punching at, or shooting/throwing things at their approximate DC counterparts. And vice versa.
It’s amazing how many people don’t seem to realize that Wondy is ridiculously fast–she can accelerate parts of her body to near the speed of sound in an instant–and superintelligent. Hulk is pretty imposing, but taking down guys like him is totally in her wheelhouse.
Batman basically avoids [del]getting shot in the face[/del] being knocked into a coma because the Marvel Heroes are somewhat chivalrous brawlers. He could give them a challenge, I guess. Hey, you know who is agile and clever? Wonder Woman.
Kilowog very likely could dismantle Tony’s armor, and John might be able to do it. Guy, Kyle, Hal, and Ch’p might have a harder time…
Who’s the [del]watery bint with a scimitar[/del] lady underwater with the sword at 1:10?
And pretty much any proper superhero should be able to take out the Hulk. That’s sort of the benchmark for whether you’re in the Big Leagues. Yes, the Hulk is a cosmic absolute: he’s the Strongest One there Is. But that’s all he is, and any hero with even moderately versatile powers and a decent brain should be able to think of some way to use those powers to nullify Hulk.
The best thing about that Batman/Captain America team-up (which occurred in the second issue of JLA/Avengers) was when Captain America, visiting the Batcave, comments, “You lost a partner, too?” Very touching…
…and now, of course, the deaths of both Bucky and Jason Todd are undone. Character development? Who needs character development?
Just be patient. In about ten years or so, Disney will buy out Time Warner or vice versa and then Marvel/DC will both be part of the same happy corporate empire anyway.
Well, you could assume it’s Magneto, though he doesn’t show up in the trailer (though I did see Wolverine, Iceman, Storm, and Colossus).
Mostly clips of the movies, though there are a couple from Injustice cutscenes and the fan-made Machinima series (all the Deadpool ones, and I think the scene were Batman throws his batarangs at the camera).
If we’re talking Justice League vs Avengers, then the DC guys win handily… they’ve got more guys in the ‘god-level’ tier, whereas Marvel only has one/two guys (Thor and Hulk). I think it leans back towards Marvel if you throw in the X-Men though (especially the psychics, though they kinda ruin anything).
My husband does not believe anyone would pick DC over Marvel. What about The Immortals? he asks through me. Silver Surfer? The Scarlet Witch? Too many to mention, he insists.
He made me type this. I only know the movie and some cartoon guys. What do I think? Which universe does Dr. Manhattan inhabit? Who ever has him wins.
Nether Marvel nor DC has any characters who don’t have a near-equivalent in the other universe (or else an exact equivalent, due to ‘I want to play with/parody/homage a character from the other company’ or ‘let’s do an unofficial crossover’). Any single character, or group, could be countered by a similar (if not near-identical) character or group from the other.
But DC’s power baseline is a WHOLE lot higher.
The Justice League typically has on its roster:
Superman (who’s fucking Superman)
Wonder Woman (almost as powerful, better trained, only one weakness which is hard to exploit)
Martian Manhunter (nearly the same powerset as Superman plus telepathy (which works on a galactic scale!), shape-shifting, and phasing - he does, however have the totally weaksauce weakness of a fear of fire)
Green Lantern (possessing an essentially magical ring which is explicitly limited only by the wearer’s imagination…and its power level, but in typical usage, it can go for days between charges)
Other significant (and overpowered) members:
Flash (only one power, but has the ability to travel to other universes and time-travel as a SIDE EFFECT of that power)
Zatanna (magician basically limited only by her imagination)
Firestorm (limitations change based on the particular incarnation, but he’s an elemental manipulator)
I don’t see why Batman couldn’t beat Iron Man. He basically built his own iron man suit to fight Superman, except his didn’t have rocket boots. They’re basically the same character, except Batman is into the whole goth scene.
I don’t know about the comics so much but I’ve watched the Justice League series and most of the DC animated movies and Wonder Woman always seemed secretly overpowered to me. She’s a little weaker than Superman except she doesn’t die to glowing rocks. She doesn’t have utility moves like x-ray vision but she has magic artifacts, like the unbreakable lasso which is pure cheats.
One thing I was never sure about was if WW would be hurt by bullets or other minor projectiles. They always show her blocking it with her cuffs, but they never show bullets bouncing off her skin like they do with Superman. There’s been fights where it seems like she’s in danger of being cut with stabbing weapons – wielded by demi-gods, but still. But they also show her being thrown through skyscrapers, so she’s kind all over the place (like she doesn’t always have flight, either). In her 2009 movie she killed Hades’s earthly form by cutting his head off with a normal sword after punching him and throwing him around didn’t seem to faze him. Lots of fridge logic.
Cool video. But to ignore it and focus on the age-old question “which universe would win”…
You can easily make either universe win based on (1) who you pick to represent them, and (2) how you have them use their powers. Something like Justice League / Justice Society / Teen Titans vs. Avengers / X-Men / Fantastic Four / Spider-man, is different than “every hero ever vs. every hero ever”, which is different than “literally every character including Galactus and the Beyonder and so forth” (in which case the actual heroes are mostly irrelevant.) And as far as how they use their powers, so many characters go up or down in power-level and ability depending on the needs of the story that you could easily get whatever outcome you want.
Look at super speed, for example. The core DC heroes like Superman (and obviously the Flash) have a lot more feats of speed than the core Marvel heroes, but they seem to conveniently forget about it half the time when fighting characters who don’t have super speed. Flash has evacuated a whole city by carrying people on his back one or two at a time in a matter of seconds, but he can’t disarm Captain Cold in the time it takes him to aim his weapon?
It also depends on the circumstances of the fight and whether they know each other’s powers. If you throw the Flash and Professor X in a room and say “1, 2, 3, fight!” there’s a good chance Flash could run over and clock him before Prof. X could react, but if they’re just part of a crowded battlefield it’s unlikely the Flash would go straight for the guy in the wheelchair, unless he’s familiar with his powers and knows how dangerous he is.
Also, did they have time to plan for the fight? Because if so it depends as much on smarts and strategy as raw power. The Batman factor.
