Somebody summarize the debate for me

And it was smart business for Martin Shkreli to raise prices on needed medication by thousands of dollars. A few people will admire the smart business tactics, but I think most will be uncomfortable at the very least about someone who profited off others misfortunes, or off their own misfortunes if they lost their home or job in the recession. I can imagine that there could have been some smart way for Trump to have spun this, but he didn’t manage to.

It’s called conviction and not 'rooting for. ‘Rooting for’ or not doesn’t make a difference . Bubbles are meant to burst.

It’s not that. Bubbles are meant to burst. So it’s his conviction. ‘Rooting for’ or not doesn’t matter.

Doctor, doctor, give me a spin
I can’t debate, and I need me a win

No, he actually rooted for it, and even admitted it. He just admitted he doesn’t care if people are suffering if he can make a buck from it.

Or as was said by a wise sage last night;

“For Trump to win, he needed to avoid setting himself on fire. For Clinton to win, she needed to spontaneously evolve into a being of pure energy. So call it a draw.”

I agree that she has done better in the past. But she was plenty good enough last night. When you opponent insists on hanging himself, step back and offer rope.

I think she should have brought up the use of Trump Foundation funds to pay off his legal obligations, but his stiffing of his contractors is more relatable to more people. I would have gone further by adding “and those three girls that sang in your rally, all they wanted was a table to sell their CDs and you couldn’t even make good on that!”

I said before the debate that if you watch with the sound off, you can tell who won. When she talked, he looked like he had ants in his pants or was trying to hold in a fart. When he talked, she was at times dismissive but in general was polite and attentive.

The first presidential debate of the 2016 election was barely over before the spin began.
First, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani lowered the bar for Donald Trump.
This debate was not @realDonaldTrump’s best, but there are still two more. #debatenight

Then Rudy adds…

Donald Trump should skip the next two debates unless he gets special guarantees from the moderators, former New York mayor and top Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani told reporters after the debate.

so, next debate…
Donald, these are the questions, but feel free to ramble on about anything though, oh, and don’t worry about taking too much time. You can use all of Hillary’s time you need. Sorry it was tap water, we’ll get Perrier for you next debate. Would a case be enough?

So far, it’s one vote for draw, about a million for “she kicked his ass.”

From the 538 elves, the description of this exchange tells a lot of why Hillary was considered the winner and why the world really does not need to have a dangerous bullshitter like him as the commander in chief.

In a nutshell that points to what is going on: Followers of Trump seem to like his “Alpha Male” show, but at the same time they think that his “bull in a china shop” approach to government and the world is an asset too.

Uh, no. Those may not sound contradictory but in practice they are. A commander in chief should know he or she will be in control in a crisis, but it defeats the purpose, and efforts to world peace, if the plan is also that he **will **break the shop just to show off later “what a great guy I’m.”

And even if you buy the “it was just business” line, it needs a follow-up that says “Of course, I understand that being President comes with a different set of priorities than personal profit, so as President my position would be different.” (Or in Trumps case, the same statement with fewer words and syllables.) But he didn’t provide that.

8t reminded me of Joe Biden v Paul Ryan, where Biden guffawed so much he turned red while eating Ryan for lunch.

I think Trump has made it clear that his incredibly successful, hard-driving business style is what he’s selling as perfect for the Oval Office.

“I think Donald just criticized me for preparing for this debate. And, yes, I did. You know what else I prepared for? I prepared to be president.” -Hilary

:smiley:

Like this one:

That was a little weird since he wasn’t exactly criticizing her about that, he was rambling about something else, but it was a good line that she was waiting to use. And he certainly wasn’t able to refute it.

<spit-take>

Is this the part where the board shames me for not being a Hillary shill?

Patience, Gulfy. Patience.

No, there’s no mistaking who’s shill you are.

No, this is the part where we shame you for having no connection with reality, just like The Donald.
