Somebody summarize the debate for me

I’ve seen it described as “it was like watching Wikipedia debate a Markov chain”.

This is the part where the board laughs because your remark was laughably wrong. Which, I suppose, makes it appropriate that your response to Vinyl Turnip was also highly risible.

…some other famous draws from history

Clinton is getting hit by all the sexist double-standards. She needed to go on the attack, but not hard enough to be perceived as ‘shrill’ or ‘bossy’. She needed to provide enough detail to appear ‘substantive’, but not so much that people get bored. She had to look human without appearing ‘emotional’.
She did a decent-if-imperfect job of threading those needles, in my opinion.

Trump, meanwhile, needed to stand upright and avoid spewing Sarah-Palin-esque word salad. He failed.

I like businessmen that don’t have multiple bankruptcies. Trump couldn’t even run a Casino profitably, which is the closest thing to a license to print money. So I dispute he’s been incredibly successful.

Well, if diversity of thought is unwelcome,

at least I can provide some entertainment.

Cheers!

Meet the Press actually called Clinton “over prepared”:

.@chucktodd: #debatenight exposed Trump’s lack of preparation, but Clinton seemed over-prepared at times.
Nobody likes a bluestocking, right Chuck?

Trump has been trying to stay on message to make himself appear less hostile to minorities and women. Hillary has been trying to portray him as hostile to these groups. On that front, she won last night.

Calling him out for birtherism and his statements on women hopefully cost him some votes. Trump can’t win with only the votes of white people who are OK with racism and misogyny. There is a ceiling of about 30-40% with just them. So he has been pretending to care about women and minorities the last few weeks to get the last 10-20% who are repulsed by his statements.

One writer basically said Hillary spent the debate reaching out to voters she needs, Trump spent it reaching out to his base who are already locked up. I’d agree with this assessment.

Well, you’ve shown the ability to provide one of the two, at least-thank you for that.

The red outfit was an eye-sore … just awful

It wasn’t just Clinton calling him out. His response was to embrace that accusation. An exchange like this:

“He called Miss Universe, Miss Piggy”
“Well of course I did! She was so fat! Just look at her!”

If it had just been Clinton making accusations, it wouldn’t have hurt him half as much.

She pulled the knife - Trump ran right into it.

You can get a glimpse of how the candidates fared by how they approached Lester Holt at the end of the debate:

Summary: Reince Priebus has quit pouring Baileys over his Lucky Charms. He’s switched to Everclear.

Well, since we’re citing twitter: x.com

So why didn’t he pull a Paulson?

I cited a video from the debate. What the hell was THAT?

Like this one:

[/QUOTE] I was thinking more along the lines of ["All right, we'll call it a draw."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhRUe-gz690) :D

You’ve said that in at least two threads now. I thought the outfit was fine, but seriously who gives a fuck? Are you trying to illustrate the sexist double standards that Clinton is successfully negotiating in addition to actually being a well qualified candidate?

Trump was expected to show up in a suit that fit, and not get in a fistfight with the moderator. Clinton was expected to wear a good outfit, smile but still be serious, be aggressive without being overbearing, state coherent policy points without lecturing, et cetera. She’s juggling chainsaws on a tight rope, while Trump is doodling with crayons. And the main point you want to make is about her outfit? Please.

The biggest winner was her medical team. They got her to stand for 90 minutes. Impressive.

Modern med tech is amazing

I agree, she looked fine, but even if she had come out dressed in a suit like The Riddler, she would have looked less ridiculous at the debate based on what Trump was saying.

Also, I thought the red stood out nicely against the blue background. And it seems like she tricked him into wearing a blue tie because of the Between Two Ferns episode where she joked he’d wear his red power tie, or a white power tie.
