Somebody summarize the debate for me

AmeriKa, Drumpf, Teabagger and a few others are also warning signs

Donald Trump is married to a woman who was born and raised a Communist for the first 23 years of her life.

She grew up an active enemy of the United States, a perspective that is unique among first ladies and presidents.

A few years after her country collapsed, she was up in the arms of an American billionaire.

After that, he becomes mysteriously enamored with Russia and Putin.

Sure… let’s talk about marriages.

I was afraid I’d have to explain a perfectly good Monty Python reference. Then again, Monty Python is comically nothing compared to the hilarity that is a Trump candidacy.

And Melania is, of course, the 2nd ex-Communist he was married to.

Don’t you mean “AmeriKKKa”? Haven’t heard that one since SDS days.

Drumpf is just the old-country version of “Trump.” My own family tree has a few changes, so I don’t consider it very original. Kind of anti-Immigrant…

And the Teabaggers started using that name–until they discovered a previous, rather racy, definition.

Well, you can HARDLY expect Eric to show fidelity to his mother. The REAL money is on Dad’s side!

I have seen Amerika here on the SDMB in the last couple of months- used seriously.

It’s still stupid.

Maybe, yes a few were conned into thinking it didnt mean what it did. It still is a childish insult.

You can’t pick and choose childish insults and pejoratives based on your political views. I despise the Tea Party and all that it stands for- but I am no longer in the 5th grade so I dont use “Teabagger”.

Using those terms just shows me you are going to debate on a 5th grade level, so i dont bother.

I really hope that Clinton doesn’t go after Melania for a variety of reasons. But also from what I’ve read Trump’s involvements with Russia precedes his involvement with Melania, so there’s no need to bring her up there.

The thing is, if Trump goes after Bill, you know that Hillary will be ready for it and will smack him down, and he’ll sputter and go all word salad on her. He has zero chance of making such a charge make any difference.

You also know that Trump is stewing after this debate and trying to figure out exactly the nastiest thing he can get away with saying about Hillary. His advisors will tell him not to do it, and he’ll nod and say sure, but he’s coming up with it. And during the next debate, she’s gonna do everything she can to make him lose his shit and say it.

Convincing not a one of his supporters to abandon the Trump Titanic. He can say what he wants with impunity where attacks on the Clintons are concerned. In fact, he’ll be applauded loudly at the next Trump rally.

The goal isn’t persuasion so much as containment.

There’s still a class of voters who are like, “both of these people are awful.” Clinton’s job is to prevent any of them from going into Trump’s camp, and to get some of them to come into hers. If Trump says something truly repellent to her during the next debate, that’ll help with the first part; if she responds in a classy but firm way, that’ll help with the second.

My wife is already convinced that his manner during the debate is going to finish driving off suburban middle-class college-educated women who were wavering.

Trump (Well, more like Rove) wants to drive as many voters as he can into the “both of these people are awful.” camp, since his cadre is pretty solid and hers is not.

So, IMHO the FB memes about how bad both are- are driven by Rove & Trump.

Clinton is not dishonest- compared to just about every GOP candidate.

Clinton is not scandal ridden - compared to Trump.

etc.

I think the undecideds are few and those few that are, need to be put on a raft and towed out to sea.

She needs to get those who have decided to sit this one out to go vote for her. The only way to do that is to make him look dangerous. He doesn’t look dangerous if he simply insults her. They don’t care much for her anyway, so that’s not going to motivate them. She needs to make him look like a threat to the future of the country and perhaps the world. Not as easy a task as it might seem.

Oh no. My FB feed has few Trump supporters, but a good number of “Both are horrible choices”.

Perhaps I’m wrong in my interpretation, but I don’t consider that undecided. They* have* decided -> “both are horrible”. Therefore they’ll stay home because there is nothing in it for them.

Which is good for Trump. The GOP *wants *voters to stay home, they fight hard to ensure more do.

Which is why Clinton needs to scare the bejeezus out of them and get them to turn out and vote for her.

The one person I saw who said that on my wall were still trying to decide who to vote for. She was leaning trump slightly, but then and deleted her post. I assume some people yelled at her.

She’s still going to vote for Trump.

Probably. But that’s no reason not to make her feel bad about it.
