Here is today’s Kevin & Kell comic. Now, I’m sure whatever Bill Holbrook is aiming at, it’s not what I think, but I can’t get past my first reaction, which was absolute horror.
Can anyone explain ‘what’s in the box’ to me, please?

Well, the cats seem happy with it. I’m assuming some sort of small furry animal. Squirrels or mice.
Kittens, perhaps.
Home-made road kill.
Probably a small human child.
The joke is that it is a reversal of the real world (where we eat animal roadkill).
Whatever it is, it probably isn’t significantly worse off than it was before being run over, seeing as how there’s no air holes in the box.
I think the box is full of cow tools.
Then again, it looks like someone put the box there specifically so they could immediately run it over.
You don’t need to provide air holes if you are just going to run someone over.
Good point, Nightime. I defer to your expertise in the area of roadkill preparation.
It’s roadkill. Mice, squirrels…something small.
Certainly not kittens (cats are carnivores, not food - except under unique circumstances), nor humans (which don’t exist in the K&K world, and probably wouldn’t be food, either).
Also, Johnny, the carnivores are a wolf (Kell, the mother), a half-wolf/half-fox (Rudy, the boy), and a half-wolf/half-rabbit (Coney, the baby).
My first reaction was kittens, because of a horrible incident that occurred at the end of my road when I was a teen (talk about mental scarring for life).
However, there is no way at all that Bill Holbrook would actually have meant that - not only because cats are on his ‘carnivore’ list, but also because it’s black, bleak and twisted, which isn’t remotely the nature of his comic - K&K is pure fluff.
I’m guessing that the responses by Johnny Bravo, **Miller ** and **Tengu ** are correct - that it’s standard roadkill, probably something rodenty.
Thanks for your help, everyone.
The key here is to note that it’s fresh roadkill.
Toppings can make or break a pizza, don’cha know.
