As others have said the show went for more overall, season-long storylines rather than one-off adventure episodes. I know this really turned me off when I first tried watching it. You come in mid-season and are like, “What the hell is going on? Dominion what? Founders who? Orbs where? Ooo, that Dax is a hottie!”
And because its set on a space station instead of a ship its more character driven than plot driven (i.e. its more of a soap opera than TOS or TNG ever was).
I still like Next Generation and Enterprise more, but I’ve come to appreciate DS9. Much more so than Voyager.
