AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!
I quit 3 days ago.
I’ve got my nicotine gum.
I’ve got my distractions.
Until today, things have been going well.
However, for the past 3 hours, I’ve felt like eating a cigarette.
Can anyone give me some advice???

whatever you do, don’t go to the pub for AT LEAST a month…
Yeah…I’m avoiding all alcohol, and smoke-filled places.
Do not smoke.
Do not even smolder.
I had a cigarette a week ago Tuesday morning. It’s been tough. I really would like to have a smoke. The weekend was the most difficult, as I didn’t have any distractions. If you want a cig, just wait five minutes. The craving will go away. At least, that’s what I tell myself.
Don’t smoke. Breathing is a much more pleasant sensation.
It will get easier, I promise.
One day at a time.
Go ahead and light up.
It takes a real man to look Death in the face.
Crap, my post got eaten.
To summarize:
a) Thanks guys.
b) I’m pissed that this is bothering me. I thought I was stronger than this.
c) I realized that since I’m not the one paying for the gum, I should go ahead and take them as directed, rather than every 3-4 hours.
I have smoked 3 times in almost 4 months (each of those times was because I was out partying) - the anticipation of a cigarette is always better than the real thing.
DO NOT SMOKE - the first month is the hardest ! It does get easier I promise! Do not even consider smoking an option, cuz if you do, I guarantee you that you will be smoking at some point down the road.
Smoking is a non-option.
It is gross and I am really happy to be smoke-free.
Burn incense or sage sticks instead.
you can do it!
I didn’t mean smoke, meant you can beat this!
rah rah!
Go Spit!
That doesn’t sound right somehow, but if it keeps him from posting, what the heck. Give it a try.

drink green tea
Don’t do it, Man! Get a big noseful of the clothing of a smoker (or the hair of a smoker, or whatever) - the gross, stale smell might dissuade you.
Or it might make you crave one even more - I dunno, I’ve never been addicted to cigarettes. But if you think it’ll turn you off, do it.
Get out your oldest, smelliest, most tar-stained ashtray (you know - the one you couldn’t even clean with a wire brush and turpentine). Everytime you feel the need, take a great big whiff of it.
It worked for me.
BTW- Once you are well and truly smoke-free, dont ever ever EVER smoke another cigarette. - I did and I’m a twenty-a-day man again…
Tell yourself that you just smoked one! It’s what worked for me. And get off the nicotine gum – that’s still putting that chemical in your body.
SaxFace
who has not smoked in over 7 months after smoking for 16 years
Yesterday was tough.
I took a couple of extra pieces of gum, went for a walk, (to distract myself) then went to bed.
When I woke up, I had a craving, so I chewed another piece, then had 3 at work. The last piece was 6 hours ago, and I haven’t had a craving yet.
I’ve got a busy weekend, so hopefully that will distract me. Then I’m hoping to only use the gum as needed, and cut that out with mint gum or something.
I think my problem yesterday was I watched the movie Casino, and everyone smokes…Which got me to thinking, then wanting, etc. Now that I have figured out how to distract myself better, I should be okay. (I hope)
I really appreciate you guys harping yesterday though.
Lumberjack- Yeah, I quit for 6 months a couple of years ago, and decided ONE wouldn’t hurt…
** Grabs pack away from Spit. **
BAD!BAD!BAD! ** Slaps hand **
** Turns to observers ** Who gave the smokes? Nobody gonna fess up huh? I see how it’s gonna be. ** Turns up eyebrow distainfully **
Man! You can do it. Just think of all the good things that will come out of this…
That 100 a month for ciggs? Save it for a Bahama vacation!
Think of how nice it will be to smell the breezes.
Think of how nice it will be to taste again (still, stay away from McDonalds)
You will no longer be forced to sit in the dingy(leper) section of resturants.
Your throat won’t be sore or swolen.
I’ll put ya on my prayer list Spit! I’m still a slave to that master and wish I had the strenth you have to even star quitting.
Spit, I’ll give you a virtual kiss if you don’t smoke. Will that help, hon? If you smoke, then I’ll just be so disappointed in you. It’s a nasty, disgusting habit, and it’s dangerous. You’re better off without them. And you are stronger than some silly lil ol’ cigarette. You can do it!
