Something I've never heard from a 9/11 survivor

To this day, I have never heard of a 9/11 widow(er) who said something like, “We weren’t happy. If s/he was still alive, I know we would be divorced now.”

I’m sure that SOME of those 9/11 victims were not well liked by those who knew them, too, and not just the hijackers.

This obituary made me think of that.

When is the last time you heard anyone speak ill of the dead in public?

It just isn’t done.

Even if some survivor/widow/widower/whatever said that I very much doubt it would be repeated by the media because it doesn’t fit the commonly accepted narrative that has grown up around the event.

I think most people have people they don’t like, yet at the same time don’t wish a painful, senseless, violent death for them.

There’s a fairly enormous chasm between “I was thinking about divorce” or “that guy’s an asshole” and “I’m glad he was vaporized/melted/exploded on impact.”

You can not be besties and still grieve that they died, and the way they died.

It’d be like a football player saying “God wanted my team to lose.” It actually has happened, but, damn, it’s rare!

You just don’t say things like that about the dead. It makes you look like a jerk even if it’s true.

It’s not like they can defend themselves

We obviously watch different movies.
