Sometimes, The Universe Lines Up For Good Things To Happen; The Fridge Story

So sadly, our refrigerator of 10 years started acting up - actually a few months ago, it caused major damage in our walls when the hose to the ice machine burst, but we didn’t notice it until a puddle formed and by then, the walls downstairs (yes, our kitchen is upstairs) started to show water damage. We disconnected the water hose, and spent time fixing the damage it had caused. But as it was still winter, we didn’t hurry to fix the ice machine and went back to “old school” and used ice cube trays. Then summer hits here in Las Vegas.
So we called repair person and they came and after two trips, finally got the right part and fixed the ice machine; Total = $200.
Not a week later, the fridge suddenly no longer got cold and we were told maybe it froze up, so we turned it down and let it “warm up” before trying again. Nope, no such luck with the “easy fix”…it was probably going to need some more repair.
Started calculating what this was costing and trying to figure out if it was worth repairing or buying a new fridge.
Saw a nice, stainless steel fridge, with ice dispenser, on sale at Home Depot for $1100 with an Energy Star that said will only cost $62 a year to run, unlike our older, less energy efficient model.
Hmm…repair old one, or buy new one?
Was mulling it over…

Two days later, we go to see Drag Me To Hell (a decent movie by the way) at the local multiplex at the local casino. After the movie, with a grand total of $5, I played nickel poker and got four of a kind, which paid me $15. My SO was hungry and didn’t want to hang around playing nickels much longer, so instead of taking my winnings and using it towards the buffet, I took a chance and quickly switched to quarters, and - after less than two minutes, won $1200! Trust me when I say this doesn’t happen all that often.

We looked at each other and said, “New refrigerator!”

It is being delivered tomorrow.

It’s nice when fate smiles, even for an instant, when you need it most.

like a bolt out of the blue
fate steps in and sees you through.

Well, DMark, I came in to congratulate you on a nice bit of serendipity, which I definitely do, but now I must add a shake of my fist at Zebra for filling my brain with the song that will ring there for at least the rest of the day.

When you wish upon a star, your dream comes true. Argh!

That is awesome, and one of those, “this only happens in Vegas” stories! Enjoy the new fridge.
