This morning a moving van pulled into one of our neighbor’s driveway. This was surprising at first, because there’d been no talk about them moving (and there’s always talk), plus no “For Sale” sign or open house or people being shown around the house/yard.
But the van’s people carried out some boxes and some smallish pieces of furniture. Didn’t take very long though… So, divorce?
Then as the van drove away, the mom stood there in the driveway watching as long as the van was in sight.
Then the dad walked over and put an arm around her.
Oh. First child permanently leaving. Fly well, little nestling!
Let us know when the potter’s wheel or Peloton is delivered.
There is a surprising (to me) lot of that style of house selling going on these days. Real estate agents advertise their services with a lot of “no for sale signs, no open homes, no lockboxes,” for the sake of added security. And we don’t even have nodding acquaintance to anyone on our block but the ones immediately next door.
Selling houses has sure changed, and not for the worse in my opinion, except that it does seem to make buyers more dependent on agents rather than looking on their own. I did 95% of our house-hunting by looking at the open home ads in the Sunday paper, but that was 20+ years ago.
