Somewhere Out There

Prompted by the dopleganger thread:

Sigh…

For many years people were accusing me of being places I had never been or pretneding not to know them when they passed by. I would get calls from folk asking how come I didnt look them them up when I was home.

I figured cool …I got me a dopleganger.

Not so…

A few years ago one of my sisters was training to be a nurse and my parents were strangly upset whenever she would go out with anyone from work. The reason finally emerged after a drunken row. It appears that before my parents were married they had had a child (which makes me 3 of 7 not 2 of 6). Ireland being what it was in the 70’s and my mother’s rural backround meant that they felt it impossible to keep the child and so gave it up for adoption. They knew only that a doctor and his wife had adopted the child. Despite best efforts they have never been able to track him down.

The male line of this branch of the O’Connor Don family
bear a striking resemblance to each other. So much so that I remember finding a photo of myself and some wierd guy in a photobooth. It took me a week to discover that it was actually a picture of my father at around the same age I was at the time.

So somewhere out there I have a brother that is 2 years my senior and apparently looks exactly like me.

Apologies to all in advance for anytime I pass you by in the street and walk past with my nose in the air .
I have considered searching but it would be too much of an upset for my parents now. I think I may know where he works as “I” have most often been seen in a particular shopping centre. But for know I will content myself that I can always say “who me…No…I wouldnt do such a thing…musta been my evil twin”

Anyone else here got a sibling they’ve never met?

Wow, don’t know what to say to that one. The closest I can come up for me is that I always look like somebody called “Amy”. One day I will meet this Amy, this I do vow.

My dad didn’t know he had a half-sister until he was about 12. My Grandmother married at 15 and had a baby girl, the marriage didn’t work out and her ex-husband’s family kept the baby as they felt my Grandmother was too young to care for her. When the baby (my half-Aunt) was grown she went out looking for her mother and that’s how my father found out he had a half-sister. I don’t know any more of the details because we aren’t the kind of family that talks about stuff.

A good friend of mine found out he had a half-sister, too, the result of an affair his father had when he was married to his mother. AFAIK, the mother never found out about the girl.

So, I guess finding an unknown half-sibling isn’t really that uncommon.

I can’t help but want to hug your poor mother & father though. Imagine being put in the situation where the best thing you can do for your child is to give him up!

There is a guy running around the valley who, I’m told, looks exactly like me. Close friends have actually went up and spoke to him, thinking he was me. They said only the voice was different.
Weird.

The thing is Damhna, how do we know it was you that turned up in Pravda that night?
pretty strange situation. I swear If I ever see you, I’ll kick you in the shins. if you don’t know me, you’ll kick me back, therefore realising that this is the doppelganger.
If you don’t kick me back, It’ll be you.

But what if I run into FateOfTwist ?
