Anybody know what “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica is about? I’ve got two or three possibles in my head, but I’d like to hear others’ ideas.
How about “Scar Tissue” by Red Hot Chili Peppers?

I’m guessing it is about heroin in some way, 80-85% of their songs are.

Sounds like someone talking to their soulmate. In other words, only you and I matter to me.
I agree with Gazoo but it sounda bit more like he’s saying that he doesn’t care about what other people think about the relationship, like he’s played those petty games before and they don’t matter to him anymore. Only his soulmate and their love matters now.

I would say it is the prototypical power ballad about love. I also realize that some misanthropic metal fans may not like this fact. So, in the interests of pleasing all, it could also be argued that this a song about the protagonists anthropomorphized dark side. Yup, this is a song about the deranged mind of a serial killer. No bones about it.
I think the song is about the band, how they always do what they want, not worrying about what other think.
