Song Origin

does anyone know the origin and story behind the Queen songs: we will rock you, we are the champions and another one bites the dust?

thanks,

I saw one of those VH1 things on Queen recently. They mentioned all these songs, but didn’t say anything about any stories. AFAIK, they’re just damn good songs! Nothing particularly significant about them. Of course, I could be wrong.

Sorry Chief, can’t help you with the origins, but have you seen this Aiwa Another One Bites The Dust commercial? Good stuff.

that was a Great commercial! thanks…

anyone know anything about the original question?

refresh.

does anyone know the answer?

I believe they all resulted from the creative exhaustion which the band suffered after writing Bohemian Rhapsody. The lack of remaining lyrical resources rendered them incapable of writing anything interesting for the next several decades.

It may surprise the OPer, but not every song has deep metaphorical meaning. I’m pretty certain that these songs were written for fun.

I vaugely remember hearing that “We Will Rock You” was based on a football (soccer) chant, and “We Are The Champions” grew out of that. Could be wrong – it’s been a few years since those neurons have fired…
