Songs about cars or driving

I’m putting together a CD for a friend who is getting a car

I’ve found some lists of songs about cars/driving, but they tend to include every song ever known to man that has the word “drive” or “road” in it, regardless of whether it actually has anything to do with cars.

So far, I have:

Wheels of a Dream- from Ragtime
Drive My Car- The Beatles
Born to be Wild- Steppenwolf
On the Road Again- Willie Nelson
No Particular Place to Go- Chuck Berry
Life is a Highway- Tom Cochrane
Greased Lightning- from Grease
I’m In Love With My Car- Queen
Going Mobile- The Who
there’s one in particular my dad used to like and I can’t remember any of the specific lyrics to look it up. It was something about everything being okay when you’re in your car, your car being where you want to be most, something like that. I think it’s from the seventies because my dad talked about liking it when he was a kid. I really don’t know how popular it was.

share your favorites, please!

Kraftwerk, “Autobahn”

I’ll let others fill in with songs like “Hot Rod Lincoln”, “Little GTO”, “Fun, Fun, Fun (Till her daddy takes her T-bird away)”
And submit “Running down a dream” by Tom Petty, where the singer is definitely driving his car along (cruise control, pedal down) and also a favorite for other band call-out lists (“Me and Del were singing, Little runaway”

Wait - do you mean “Cars” by Gary Numan?

Any driving song collection without Deep Purple’s “Highway Star” is incomplete.

“Radar Love” by Golden Earring fits the bill too.

Warm Leatherette by The Normals

Okie dokie, the version by Pat Travers is nice.

There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with the Radio.

455 Rocket.

Route 66.

Mustang Sally.

One Piece at a Time.

ETA: Google songs about cars for more.

Great lyrics:
