Great Driving Songs

I may have a long car trip coming up in the near future. I’m driving solo, so I’ll need some great driving songs; music that will keep me going over a few thousand miles. So far, I’ll include:

– Queen, “Don’t Stop Me Now”
– Golden Earring, “Radar Love”
– Pink Floyd, “Run Like Hell”
– Martha and the Muffins, “Echo Beach”
– B.B. Gabor, “Metropolitan Life”
– The Knack, “My Sharona.”
– Billy Idol, “White Wedding”
– First Class, “Beach Baby”
– Bon Jovi, “Livin on a Prayer”
– ZZ Top, “Legs”

It’s a short list for now, but I am hoping you can add to it. Be aware that I’m into music up until about 1995; I didn’t pay much attention after that. (True, I’m old.) So with that stated, have you any other suggestions?

One song will last you the whole trip, the song with no end,Horse with No Name.

Well, I’m thinking of something a little more upbeat than “Horse With No Name.”

Ah. Karla Devito’s Cool World. That’ll work. Anything else?

The James Bond theme.

A warning, though - the music will make you accelerate and start swerving defensively.

I tend to like songs with a good beat when I’m driving…it just makes me happy

Aram “Something in the Night” (uptempo Bruce Springsteen cover)

Richard Buckner “A Chance Counsel”

Okkervil River “Lost Coastlines”

Bob Seger, pretty much has it all boxed off

“One Of These Days” by Pink Floyd

“The Distance,” by Cake.
“Black Betty,” by Ram Jam.

All road trips start with some AC/DC
Highway to Hell.

Six Days on the Road . Dave Dudley

Born To be at trucker - Red Simpson

Raindrops On My Windshield - Red Sovine

“Truck Drivin’ Song,” by Weird Al Yankovic.

Springsteen “Born to Run”
I’ll add “Thunder Road” too

“Born to be Wild” Steppenwolf

“Bohemian Rhapsody” Queen

“Born to Run” Bruce Springsteen

“Another One Bites The Dust” Queen

“Life During Wartime” Talking Heads

“Walk this Way” Aerosmith

“Tainted Love” Soft Cell

Plus about anything by Bob Seger

May I suggest adding Tom Petty “Running Down A Dream”?

At the beginning of the movie Layer Cake - the movie that put Daniel Craig in the running for 007 - he is a criminal who just completed a deal and is driving away from a big estate (I think) - and She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult comes on. Perfect.

Radar Love, Golden Earring

Hot Rod Lincoln, Commander Cody

On the Road Again by Willie.

If it were me, The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land in entirety, on a loop. You may get pulled over a lot.

Sniff n The Tears, Driver’s Seat

These songs get cranked and sung along badly to when I’m driving: (sorry no links, YouTube is blocked at my work)
