I need a Lover (that won’t drive me crazy) John Cougar
Living After Midnight Judas Priest
Rock and Roll Zeppelin
A couple of my favorite moving on songs:
Lido by Boz Scaggs
Movin’ Out and Second Wind by Billy Joel
Reelin’ in the Years by Steely Dan
Drivin’ Wheel & Fool For The City – Foghat
Roadrunner & Light of Day – Joan Jett
Out On The Road & Ride On My Shoulder – Paul Revere and The Raiders
Let it Roll - Little Feat (1988)
*Oooooo she’s like a smooth stretch of highway
Oooooo she’s like a cool summer breeze
If my motor’s running right
We might lose control tonight
Got the shape I love to squeeze
Looks that bring me to my knees
Oh please, let it roll tonight *
You went with Living After Midnight and not Heading Out to the Highway or Desert Plains?
“Rocket Cathedrals”, Be-Bop Deluxe
“Teenage News”, Sylvain Sylvain
“I Wanna Be Sedated”, Ramones
“Queen of Eyes”, Soft Boys
“Statue of Liberty”, XTC
“Drivin’ Sister”, Mott the Hoople
“Mystery Dance”, Elvis Costello
“Throwing My Baby Out With the Bathwater”, Tenpole Tudor
“Back to School Days”, Graham Parker
“Hit and Miss Judy”, Wreckless Eric
And for a change-up, “Windfall” by Son Volt
Ditto his song “Traffic Jam”.
Actually anything of his - huge favorites on our driving trips.
This one does it for me: Herb Alpert “Route 101.”
Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover
Fun as could be when I used to drive through Texas Hill Country a lot. Makes my right foot real heavy, though.
“East Bound and Down” by Jerry Reed!
Hell yeah. Good techno music (especially if you have a decent car audio system) is great for driving, as it’s very video-game-ish.
In a similar vein, old Joe Satriani (and other guitar instrumental music) is the same way for me. I could put Surfing With The Alien on in the car and just haul ass on backroads for a long time.
La Grange, ZZ Top
Love Shack, B-52s
Surf City
Hot Rod Licoln
Brown Sugar
Just about anything by Bachman-Turner Overdrive…
What could be better than Maybellene by Chuck Berry?
I also like Miss You by the Stones. It’s got a great cruising beat.
Baby Please Don’t Go, Them
These Boots Are Made For Walkin’, Nancy Sinatra
Ramble On, Zeppelin
Midnight Rambler, Stones
"Drive Somewhere"by the highly underrated and woefully unheard Vulgar Boatmen
Highway Star - Deep Purple
Running on Empty - Jackson Browne
The first 2 that come to mind are:
Big Log from Robert Plant
Russian Hill from Jellyfish
They are more *about *driving, but really capture the feel of moving with the road, too. 2 of my favorites, but YMMV.
This. And, Waiting for Columbus. The entire album.
You’ll be set.
Honorable mention for night driving: Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore.
