Songs about creepy/pervy/weird people?

Tom Waits – “What’s He Building?” (creepy neighbor)

Sufjan Stevens – “John Wayne Gacy, Jr.” (yeah, that one)

The Jesus Lizard – “Mouthbreather,” “Karpis,” “Blockbuster,” probably others (weird houseguest, prison rapist, one seriously belligerent individual, respectively)

Steely Dan’s Everyone’s Gone to the Movies gives us a certain Mr. LaPage, a pedophile who is showing the young 'uns his films in the den, teaching them a new game to play and letting them see what they never have seen.

You can have a listen with the youtube clip here .

And, of course, “The Irish Ballad.”

“Poisoning Pigeons in the Park.”

“Smut.”

And (arguably) “I Got It From Agnes.”

And there’s Richard Thompson’s “Psycho Street.”

The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black”

I watch the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes…

And all of “Goin’ Blind” by KISS. The whole song is about an old geezer in love with a 16 year old girl. Creeps me out even now.

So is The Knack’s “My Sharona” – well, ambiguously:

Never gonna stop, give it up.
Such a dirty mind. Always get it up for the touch
of the younger kind. My my my i yi woo. M M M My Sharona…

Creep - Radiohead (man I love that hook)

Another Weird Al one is “Do I Creep You Out.”

Another Alice Cooper song: “Ballad of Dwight Fry”

“Edge of the World” by Faith No More

“Your House” by Alanis Morissette

I don’t know if the song “Diary” by Bread was about a creepy/pervy/weird person, but damned if it didn’t turn out that way.

Shy by Sonata Arctica. Not so much pervy, but creepily obsessed.

I can see how you are beautiful, can you feel my eyes on you,
I’m shy and turn my head away
Working late in diner Citylite, I see that you get home alright
Make sure that you can’t see me, hoping you will see me

Sometimes I’m Wondering why you look me and you blink your eye
You can’t be acting like my Dana (Can you?)
I see you in Citylite diner serving all those meals and then
I see reflection of me in your eye, oh please

Talk to me, show some pity
You touch me in many, many ways
But I’m shy can’t you see

Excitable Boy by Warren Zevon

*He took little Susie to the Junior Prom,
Excitable boy, they all said…
And he raped her and killed her, then he took her home,
Excitable boy, they all said… excitable boy.

After ten long years they let him out of the home,
Excitable boy, they all said…
And he dug up her grave, and builtt a cage with her bones,
Excitable boy, they all said… excitable boy.

Well he’s just an excitable boy!*

Psst… see post #9.

Seriously? This far in and no mention of Every Breath You Take by the Police? That’s got to be the most direct one of all.

And don’t forget “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” which was about a (however whimsical) young man going on a killing spree of women on campus.

And what a doozy! It’s about a “deaf, dumb and blind kid” who gets molested by his uncle:

A couple by Oingo Boingo.

Insanity:*
And the alchoholic bastard waved his finger at me
His voice was filled with evanglical glee
Sipping down his gin and tonics
While preaching about the evils of narcotics
And the evils of sex, and the wages of sin
While he mentally fondles his next of kin
My mind has wandered from the flock you see
And the flock has wandered away from me
And he waved his hypnotizing finger at me*

And of course, Only A Lad:
*Johnny was bad, even as a child everybody could tell
Everyone said if you dont get straight
Youll surely go to hell

But johnny didnt care
He was an outlaw by the time that he was
Ten years old
He didnt wanna do what he was told
Just a prankster, juvenile gangster

His teachers didnt understand
They kicked him out of school
At a tender early age
Just because he didnt want to learn things
(had other interests)
He liked to burn things

The lady down the block
She had a radio that johnny wanted oh so bad
So he took it the first chance he had
Then he shot her in the leg
<snip>
Hes underprivileged and abused
Perhaps a little bit confused

His parents gave up they couldnt influence his attitude
Nobody could help
The little man had no gratitude

And when he stole the car
Nobody dreamed that he would
Try to take it so far
He didnt mean to hit the poor man
Who had to go and die
It made the judge cry*

Gee, who would have thought that Danny Elfman had a dark side?

Ooh, good one. I’m not sure who’s creepier – the guy building the thing or the paranoid neighbors. It has a kind of “The Monsters are Due On Maple Street” feel. I love the way Waits stretches out “consulting business in Indoneeeesia”

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by the Crash Test Dummies.

“Kinko the Kid Loving Clown”–I don’t know who wrote it. Also those Nightstalker songs (there’s one by the Kinks and one by AC/DC)

Paint It Black is about the singer mourning the death of his love. It mentions the funeral cars:

I thought all the ones I would have named were already named, but I don’t see “Ted, Just Admit It” by Jane’s Addiction. Not only is it about Ted Bundy and the sensationalist news coverage of his murders, but it also has snippets of a statement from Ted himself in the song.
