songs and bands that have the same name

Eric’s Trip named themselves after the Sonic Youth song “Eric’s Trip.”

Thank you for the warning brianjedi. I looked them up - they are quite the posers aren’t they? Guess they wont be filling space on my shelf/in my computer. (Besides, I had a bad gutfeeling about a band that chose to name themselves after that song.)

Alice Cooper: “Poison”. Pure coincidence I hope.

Tenacious D… wasn’t the name of a song, but was mentioned in one of Nirvana’s tunezzzz.

Temple of the Dog… got their name from a Mother Love Bone song.
Again, I’m cheating. It wasn’t the name of the song.

KISS has to be one.

Peeping Tom… name of a Mike Patton band and a Placebo song.

America.
Yes.
Supertramp.
The Police.
Chicago.

Sisters of Mercy (named for a Leonard Cohen song)

The Replacements - "Alex Chilton’

(while Alex Chilton isn’t a band unto himself, he’s still, well, Alex Chilton).

-bbb-

The band Icehouse did the hat trick when they rleased the album ‘Icehouse’ which featured the song “Icehouse”.

Also, the band Deacon Blue is named after a Steely Dan song. The band Shakespeare’s Sister is named after a Smiths song which is named after an essay by, I believe, Virginia Woolf.

I guess “Everybody Wang Chung tonight” doesn’t count, 'cuz it wasn’t the title.

Radiohead is named after a Talking Heads song.

Not the same but:

The Metallica song Whiplash has the line “cause we’re Metallica”. Its a self reference (I know they got their name from a magazine).

Also in the Counting Crows song A Muder of One they have the line "…you stood there counting crows

Immaculate Fools, on their first album, had a great song called…well, you know.

Silly response…

What about the Monkees and “The Monkees Theme”?

At one point in my musical upbringing, I thought that every band had their own theme song.:smack:

War, the song (Good God y’all!) and the band (of Lowrider fame).

And the Dixe Chicks were named after a Little Feat song, which IIRC was actually called Dixie Chicken

Madness took their name from a song by Prince Buster, which they covered on their first album (which was not the one called Madness, which included the song “Madness Is All In The Mind”).

Fleetwood Mac (see track no.7)

The Who - Who are you

Most of mine have been said already–

The Gigolo Aunts named themselves after the Syd Barrett song “Gigolo Aunt”.

Ladytron may or may not have named themselves after the Roxy Music song of the same name.

The Soft Boys has “Give It To The Soft Boys”. Public Image Limited has “Public Image”.

Belle and Sebastian named a song (and album) “The Boy With the Arab Strap” after one of the guys in the duo Arab Strap. Belle and Sebastian also have a song named “Belle and Sebastian”, as well as half a dozen other songs that mention “Belle” and/or “Sebastian”.

Plus many tribute bands name themselves after a song by the artist they cover. And there’s hundreds of songs named after people (“I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives”, “I Saw Nick Drake”, “A Political Song for Michael Jackson to Sing”, etc)

“It’s a Beautiful Day”
