Songs/bands that are your "guilty pleasure"

… Kinda? Maybe I’m just out of touch, but they do seem sort of Korn-ripoffy and not really deserving of their place in the same rack with Master of Puppets and all of my Zeppelin.

But looking through the pile, I think that this by these guys is my true guilty pleasure. I don’t know how I surmounted my shame to even purchase it. (The emo-hair. MY GOD the emo-hair!!!)

ABBA. My rock & roll soul cringes at the thought of bouncy Euro-pop, but I listen to it semi-regularly. “Dancing Queen” still gets me singing along.

There’s nothing wrong with a little Depeche Mode my head banging friend, nothing at all. Not that I personally would have anything by them, nor would I even buy tickets off of craigslist to a sold out show, but there’s nothing wrong with them.

Nor would I have any Corrs CDs or songs on my iPod, nope not me.

This punk rock, speed metal listening tough guy you see before you dances and sings out loud almost anything produced by ABBA
i feel so dirty lol

I like Garth Brooks somewhat, but that’s not my guilty pleasure. Oh no, I like to go all the way toChris Gaines for that. That’s right folks, I listen to the soundtrack for a ‘movie’ that was never made, by a country artist that obviously wanted to try out his ‘rock star’ persona. And I love it; it never leaves my car.

mr.stretch won’t let me listen to it in the house.

Eddie Arnold is awsome.

I have to admit, I like the Backstreet Boys too. Coincidentally, I just got sent this link today (not the BBoys, but an incredible simulation): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYokLWfqbaU

I need to admit to serious deficiencies, like a shameful love of Air Supply, in their full overwrought poppy glory, Styx (the earlier stuff; Mr. Roboto makes me cringe), and 70s bubblegum pop (Partridge Family, the DeFranco Family, etc.) as mentioned upthread.

And ChiefScott, there’s nothing wrong with Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell. Do not be ashamed. (And welcome back!)

KoRn? Okay. I’m gobsmacked. To each their own, though.

Lessee… embarrassing things on my iPod that I love:

*America’s theme song to “The Last Unicorn” (it’s a hard heart that doesn’t get chills at the chorus)
*Blue Öyster Cult (even, no, especially their mellow songs, like “In Thee”)
*Depeche Mode (we should start a support group)
*Girls Against Boys (fantastic drum and bass section; terrible lyrics)
*James Taylor’s Sweet Baby James
*Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” (I am powerless to resist this song’s ability to lift my spirits)
*IAMX (sometimes I need a eurotrash fix)
*Several Lords of Acid albums
*Three versions of “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge
*Neil Diamond’s “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show” and of course, “Sweet Caroline”
*Robyn’s “Konichiwa Bitches”
*Several Stevie Nicks albums (for this, I feel no guilt or shame)
*Whitesnake’s Greatest Hits (worse still, “Is This Love?” is my favorite)

I don’t have any guilty pleasures. Oh, I have music that I adore that some people would sneer at (Bee Gees, Barry Manilow, etc.) but I don’t care! HA! HAHAHA! You’ll get my Neil Diamond songs away from me when you destroy me and not a moment sooooooooner!

I came in here to mention Justin Timberlake. I hate boy bands with a passion and laughed when Justin decided to go solo. I thought he’d be a one-hit wonder. But damn, he’s come out with some really good music in the past year-and-a-half. I still have a hard time admitting that I like him, though.

Yeah, I’ve got whole albums from The Killers, My Chemical Romance, and Good Charlotte on the ol’ iPod. Of course, to balance it out, I also have the greatest song ever, Boston’s “More Than a Feeling.”

I’m Alive! I’m ALIIIIIIVE!!!

I had no idea that was in MP3 Form. My favorite song from that movie is the ‘‘Now that I’m a Woman’’ one.

I didn’t realize music from movies counted. It’s not really embarrassing to love the soundtrack to Evita, is it? Or to have every word memorized? And to sing loudly to it as I cruise down the interstate?

…didn’t think so.

Alien Ant Farm: My favorite band for years. Everyone would say “I didn’t think you listened to stuff like this!” because apparently being a quiet, intellegent girl I was supposed to listen to Classical or Backstreet Boys or whatever genre I’m supposed to fall into. :stuck_out_tongue: I really am impressed by the band’s variety though, especially in their TruANT album.

Hot Action Cop: Pretty much the same as AAF. Caught my attention once, and I got hooked.

Seconded!

I’m a big fan of things produced by Gamble and Huff.

Don’t recognize the names? Think of those 70’s disco/funk tunes that featured a lot of strings.

Yeah, that stuff.

Where on earth did you get that? I must have it!!!

“When the last eagle flies over the last crumbling mountain…”

So another embarrassing selection on my MP3 player: the Scissor Sisters “I Can’t Decide”. I don’t feel too bad about this one though, as it has dirty words in it and is very dark in a jaunty little way. I like playing it in the car and scaring the hell out of my passengers.

I hate everything about it (it’s from the stupid sequel to a stupid movie, it’s demeaning to women, it has a stupid title, it’s a Puff Daddy song, for goodness sakes.) I’m horribly ashamed of it, but “Shake Ya Tailfeather” is a good workout song.

Comparitively, the fact that I love “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” is no big deal. Nor is the fact that in my car, I will sing along loudly to any Christina Aguilera song that plays on the radio. Or the bad pop-country music.

For some reason I have “escape” permanently associated with “American Dream” by the Dirt Band in my mind. As a matter of fact, while these two are the closest associated hearing any of these songs brings to mind a whole slew of 70s-'81 soft rock songs, most of which are guilty pleasures of mine:

Escape
American Dream
Reunited
Summer Breeze
I’d Really Love to See You Tonite
Day After Day

One of the first things I am going to download when I get hi-speed in my home is singles of these songs, since I’m pretty sure there isn’t an album collection with ALL of them and i am certainly not going to pay for each of the albums!

Note to self, stay away from loud, swerving cars that sing bad music loudly on I94.
Edited to add: Vanilla, Ice, MC Hammer, cheese 80’s metal…

hangs head in shame
