“Eres Tu” by Mocedades–That scene in Tommy Boy when David Spade and Chris Farley are crying over that song just cracked me up because I’ve always loved it!
“Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks–Don’t ask me why, 'cause I don’t really even like country music, but I really like this song. Ditto “I Like It, I Love It” by Tim McGraw.
“Leaving It All Up To You” and “Deep Purple” by Donny and Marie–Great harmony, terrific arrangement, two really good covers.
The first Matchbox Twenty album was very good.
I bought an Avril Lavigne CD “for my daughters”.
My love for Betty Boo and Prozzak might be embarrassing if they weren’t so obscure (at least, in the US).
This is so goddamned embarrassing. I am a grown man with a daughter, and I admit that when I was driving yesterday and spinning the dial I had to stop on “What Goes Around Comes Around.” I love that song. I briefly considered downloading it from I-Tunes, but I’m too ashamed.
Forget porn buddies. We need cheesy music buddies, who will come ‘sanitize’ our computers and i-pods should we meet an unexpected sticky end.
Most of my actual ‘guilty pleasures’ (for the most part, I like what I like, and am not bothered about what people think) have already been named. But here’s one that hasn’t:
There’s A Kind of Hush" by Herman’s Hermits. It’s my favorite Herman song, even though it’s from their later, more over-orchestrated, less British Invasion stuff. It’s a song that could have been performed in Las Vegas by someone (probably a minor someone) of the Sinatra-Dean Martin generation if the Beatles had never existed. But it’s a very well-crafted song, and it’s been one of my favorites for practically forever.
I don’t have many guilty pleasures, but kinda like ABBA’s best songs, this one’s cheesy as all hell, but I love it.
Damn straight! I opened this thread just to mention this song. For years, I’ve been claiming to be The Last Person in America Who Still Likes The Macarena. Nice to know I’ve got company.
Yeah, there was that brief moment there where I thought Rob Thomas was going to be the next Burton Cummings, rather than the next sorry-ass whiner. He really coulda been a contender.
And I use to hate ABBA until I bought the Best Of for my husband’s birthday because he is very comfortable in his sexuality and will freely admit to ‘always liking ABBA’.
That’s what I’d call Ironic.
“Wild Dances” by Ruslana - I think this song won the Eurovision song contest a few years ago, with Ruslana and her back-up dancers dressed like refugees from an episode of Xena.
“Boom Boom Boom Boom” by the Vengaboys.
Erasure’s cover of Abba’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” and “Lay All Your Love on Me.”
“The Bad Touch” by the Bloodhound Gang. I was rather surprised to hear it on the radio during KROQ’s 90s flashback show.
I’m also rather fond of 80’s disco, including such gems as “Danger” by the Flirts and “Time after Time” by Timmy T.
Some people think it’s cheesy, shallow, illegitimate, computer generated, emotionless, sterile, somewhat feminine music … and I can’t remember all the bad stuff people have said about it. This is particularly true of Duran, which we are not “supposed” to like unless we are screaming pre-teen girls.
However, I must admit, I sometimes feel a bit awkward blaring something like Kajagoogoo’s Too Shy with the windows down at a red light.
Something like Blondie or The Fixx may be more acceptable to the critics though.
I have a lot of 80s hair metal and new wave as well as a lot of 90s dance music. That’s not out of the ordianary for a 30-something white dude.
If anyone asks, my girlfriend put Sarah McLachlan on my iPod. Although in truth, there’s side a wide variety of music running the spectrum from Tori Amos to Foo Fighters to Nine Inch Nails to Wu-Tang Clan that it’s hard to define what exactly “my music” is.
Reminds me…anyone see this commercial for the voice activated Ford Focus?
Nickelback. Rod Stewart. The soundtrack from Waking Ned Devine (listening to The Parting Glass as I type:D). Fallout Boy. 38 Special. Kiss. AC/DC. Leon Russel. Joe Cocker. Louis Armstrong. Twisted Sister
Most of the above mixed together and burned to one or the other CD, and I play 'em loud and proud. And I have other great mixed CD’s. Great workout and leg thumping music.
Am I meant to be more or less embarrassed by my Duran love if I was actually a screaming pre-teen girl when they first came up? Eh, doesn’t matter, I’m unashamed.
I actually own the first *three * Matchbox Twenty cds, and find something to love on each of them. If nothing else, it’s great music to clean the house to.
I’ll also chime in on the My Chemical Romance love. Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is my favorite workout music (well, I skip Ghost of You), and I’d like to thank Gerard and the boys for the 50 pounds I lost last year.
I like Fall Out Boy. There, I said it! From Under the Cork Tree is pure, unabashed pop brilliance.
