Whenever I had a relationship go south, I made a mix tape. Which were replaced, in time, by mix CDs. I found that each relationship had many songs that were sad in that context (reminding me of her), but that they didn’t necessarily translate to other women.
That’s all I have on this subject. You may continue with the most excellent lists.
Love on the Rocks - Neil Diamond
One and Without You - Harry Nilsson (
CBCD:D)
The Red Headed Stranger (entire album) - Willie Nelson
Forever Blue (entire album) - Chris Isaak
How could I have forgotten :smack:
Break it to Me Gently - Juice Newton
Willie & Friends (album) - Willie Nelson. Starting with Bloody Mary Morning
I haven’t seen Linda Ronstadt’s Long Long Time on this list.
I’ve done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I’m going to love you a long, long time.
also, All By Myself by Eric Carmen
And if you’ve got a hankering for John Prine before you get past that stage, Blue Umbrella is a good one.
This is a little bit different point of view, but how about Broken Hearts are for Assholes by Frank Zappa?
Long, Long Time – Linda Ronstadt
I Can’t Hold On – Karla Bonoff
Good Morning Heartache — Billie Holiday
Cup of Coffee – Garbage
Just about everything by Joni Mitchell, but especially Down to You:
*"in the morning there are lovers in the street
they look so high
you brush against a stranger and you both apologize
old friends seem indifferent, you must have brought that on
old bonds are broken down
love is gone
ooh, love is gone
written on your spirit the sad song
love is gone"*
:smack: Well, now it’s there twice.
Oh, and add Hasten Down the Wind by Warren Zevon
“On My Own” from the Les Miserables soundtrack seems like another worthy choice. Poor Eponine…
