Dixie the Tiny Dog by Peter Himmelman
I’m a tiny dog named Dixie.
I have small feet which pitter patter on the linoleum floor.
You can hear my toenails in the middle of the night.
My tag says I belong to the Johnsons but they don’t own me they just feed me, they just
bought me one day.
And in the middle of the day I sit in the sun and I hear young children call me a
weiner-dog perhaps thats what I am - the dramatic term is dachshund and I like that.
I’m thin and I’m proud, no one can make fun of me,
I can slip through the bars of a prison if I were incarcerated but I don’t know what I
would do wrong-my body yields no evil inclination.
I’m a pure weiner dog.
Another XTC song partially from an animal’s POV: “Across This Antheap.”
Well, “When You Wish Upon A Star” was sung by a cricket, does that count?
“Stinker” by Elton John is sung from the viewpoint of a burrowing rodent(!).
“I’m a Fish”. By Roger Dale: Story of Jonah from the Whale’s POV.
I disagree. The choruses of the Gnu song are from the gnu’s point of view, as much or more so than most of the other examples in this thread. It is even largely in the first person:
I’m a gnu,
How do you do?
I’m the gnicest work of gnature in the zoo…
I nominate I’m a Little Dinosaur by Johnathan Richman. (Johnathan Richman was seriously weird.)
Olim Lacus Colueram, from Orff’s Carmina Burana, is a lament sung by a roasted swan on a platter.
Here’s a major set of songs that has not yet been mentioned: Shinbone Alley.
I AM CHEWBACCA!!! I AM A WOOKIE!!!
I FIGHT THE EMPIRE!!! I FIX THE ROBOTS!!!
DON’T FUCKING CROSS ME!!! I AM CHEWBACCA!!!
IN NEED OF NO ONE!!! IN WANT OF NOTHING!!!

Pig by Weezer. Great song, and hard to tell if it’s rabidly pro or anti meat. I don’t care to find out as I prefer the ambiguity.
MiM
I disagree with your disagreement. The song is told from the POV of a man visiting the zoo, who spoke to a gnu, and reports what the gnu said to him. It is, at least, not *exclusively *the animal’s POV
