Songs that are great for driving

Anything by Soul Coughing.

smilla, there was an episode of Homicide:LOTS once that opened with a bunch of cars getting stolen to “Super Bon Bon”. They also used that song in Gran Turismo 2.

I have a CD with a bunch of songs from Grand Theft Auto 3, and another that is the complete “Chatterbox” call-in station. Definetly puts me in an interesting mood on the road. ;D

“racecar ya-ya’s” by cake

The entire Repo Man soundtrack…

Real Quick. Get yourself a copy of Bachman Turner Overdrive’s Greatest hits. If you can’t find driving songs there, your tastes are stranger than I can imagine.

Best of luck!

anything fom u2’s rattle and hum is great (i would imagine) for driving across the u.s.

i mean, i’m driving around in urban nsw and listening to that i can imagine i’m halfway across kansas or something.

also, i’ve found that suck my kiss by the chili peppers has just the right amount of testosterone and funk to make it the perfect driving music. and for something gentler - road trippin’, again by rhcp.

The Clash - Should I Stay Or Should I Go
Living Colour - Cult of Personality

I have a specific driving CD called “Cruisin’”. Included on it are gems such as:
“Crazy on You” Heart
“When the Sh*t goes Down” Cypress Hill
“Kiss” Prince
“Faith” George Michael
“Concrete Schoolyard” Jurassic Five…
I wish I’d put a little John Cougar Mellencamp on.

“LA Woman” - the doors. A must have

I Can’t Drive 55. Best driving song ever.

cool bumpin’ for a summer night

Hello operator-white stripes

figure ill only contribute one as ive already seen a whole host of my favorites on this thread.

Pearl Jam’s MFC and Golden Earring’s Radar Love are essential.

For that sunny day with the top down…
Stick Shifts and Safety Belts-cake.

If you want a weirder version of Prince’s “Kiss,” try the version by Tom Jones and Art of Noise. Good daytime drive version.

Agree with “Radar Love.” Add to that Peter Wolf’s “Drive All Night” from his solo album “Up to No Good”. Frankly, the whole album is full of good, hard-driving songs, and I am generally very critical of albums. But “Drive All Night” is perfect for what you have in mind (about a guy getting back to his girl, natch:

I’m gonna drive all night / baby, just to be with you / it’s gonna be all right / long as I can get to you

You’ll be dancin’ in the seats to that one.

Also, I’d suggest Yello’s “Flag” album. More hard-driving beats that sound like movie soundtracks to European films. “Tied Up In Gear” starts with an air-raid siren, then an electric guitar riff that plays the scales before settling into a rapid assault on the senses. More of a dayside tune. For nighttime driving, there’s the track “Of Course I’m Lying.” It’s a slower tune in which a man’s driving with his girlfriend through a hot summer night, and he’s struggling with him knowing that she’s been lying to him. “But then, she surprises me by saying, ‘Of course I’m lying,’ but I think I love you.”

Pair that with “Boys of Summer” and you’ve got some achin’ memories in the making.

Great list to tunes. I was thinking about putting together a tape like this only a week ago, so I’m glad someone beat me to it.

I find happy hardcore good driving music.

More laid back:
