This Song Brought To You By A Falling Bomb - Thursday

I don’t think The song is over by The Who counts (no one has mentioned it yet).

2 AM, by Anna Nalick.
*2 AM and I’m still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it’s no longer inside of me,
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I’m naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud
And I know that you’ll use them however you want to. *

I missed the edit window to correct myself on the title of this one. :smack:

I think conversational lyrics like these aren’t really the same as breaking the fourth wall, but that’s just my two cents worth.

Maybe you’ll be out there on that road somewhere
In some bus or train traveling along
In some motel room there’ll be a radio playing
And you’ll hear me sing this song

  • Bruce Springsteen, “Bobby Jean”
    The time is gone
    The song is over
Thought I’d something more to say

  • Pink Floyd, “Time”
I love the babes, don’t get me wrong
Hey, that’s why I wrote this song

  • Dire Straits, “Heavy Fuel”

Randy Travis’ Forever and Ever Amen (By Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz) “If you wonder how long I’ll be faithful, just listen to how this song ends.”

NOFX-- please play this song on the radio
Monty Python --I bet you they won,t play this song on the radio
They Might be Giants – hey mr DJ. (I think that’s its name)

Sorry for the typos. I am typing on a new phone.

Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song
and he told me it was the perfect country & western song.

You Never Even Call Me By My Name

I’ve always wondered about that. Is “a minor fall and a major lift” normal music terms, or just for rhyming purposes?

Crazy ABC’s - Barenaked Lady’s

There is my song, “You Think It’s So Easy,” which is about song writing. The last lines:

There is a man
He is writing a song
And he doesn’t know how to end it

The song ends immediately as I sing it.

But if I really say it,
the radio won’t play it,
Unless I lay it between the lines.

The Mamas and the Papas - “I Dig Rock and Roll Music”

Can anyone think of any songs where the singer says “guitar!” as a way to introduce a guitar solo in the song? I’m thinking Kiss might do this, but I can’t think of the song.

Music teachers will have to weigh in for a definitive answer, but I know exactly what he’s talking about: the minor chord has the third lowered, resulting in the more somber mood change. The major chord (with the 3rd lifted/raised) results in a brighter mood. I think it’s like tension and resolve.

Anyhow, it’s brilliant songwriting.

Poison does this at least twice. “Talk Dirty to Me” has Bret Michaels say, “CC, pick up that guitar and talk to me.”

Then, during “Fallen Angel,” Bret says, “Mmmmm…guitar!”

Both precede guitar solos.

Nice!

That was Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Hey, here’s a post that breaks the fourth wall!

There’s a love song called “The First Song on the Tape You Make Her” that has several passages like:

I got it bad for you.
So bad for you.
The naughty what nots for you.
A deep soft spot for you.
I wasn’t sure how I should tell you,
and all my other ideas fell through.
This is the best way I could tell you…
you look like Love…
So just pop it in and play.
I’ll be around in a couple of days to find out if you feel the same way.
