Songs that don't belong

I just saw 40 Days and 40 Nights. One thing that REALLY got to me is the music. You all must have heard that song… it’s lyrics are: “Everything will be wonderful someday.” I don’t know the name of a song, but it’s about a little kid and his parents fighting and having marital problems. The lyrics didn’t fit the movie, yet they played it for an extended period of time… where there was no dialog, the song was the focus. BUT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STORY. I HATE this! I think, that the only time you can play a song in a movie, (a song that takes over dialog like this one), that has nothing to do with the plot, is if it represents a certain period in time… for example, Forrest Gump.

Any of you have this peeve, if so… what was it?

I believe the song isWonderful by Everclear. I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen many examples of the same thing, but the only thing I can think of is the use of a particular song by a band who’s name escapes me right now (the same guys who sing Stupified. One of their songs opens with the lead singer making a sound like a sick baboon…“Ooo, WA-A-A-A” They played that EVERYTIME SOMETHING EXPLODED or seemingly at the begining of every action sequence. The song didn’t get that much more play after the initial monkey howl. It’s was a pretty fun movie, but they seemed to rely on that one little sound bit a bit too much.

what movie

I totally agree. My SO and I were sitting in 40 Days and 40 Nights
, looking at each other and wondering who the hell did the music for this movie.
Song about a child who is emotionally troubled and confused
about parent’s bad relationship?
Obnoxious guy who is twitching because he cannot masturbate?
Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
WTF??

I also didn’t think that the music worked in A Knight’s Tale. I understand the effect they were trying to go for, but the classic rock seemed too silly or light for many of the scenes. They should have used heavier music, such as the beginning of Metallic’s Enter Sandman during the jousts.

Wouldn’t have worked at all. No one would have known the song and the point was to recognize what they were singing.

Oh man… “She Shook Me All Night Long” at the end… who is “SHE”? I mean, are talking about that girl who was also in 40 Days!? If you’ve watched the movie, you would know the AC/DC song doesn’t fit. She “keeps her motors clean” I think that means she cleansed her horses colon regularly.
