Songs that just freakin' rock

Beethoven’s Piano Sonata #14, Third Movement. Laugh if you like.

A Winter’s Tale, Days of the Phoenix, and God Called in Sick Today, all by A.F.I.

Davey’s voice makes me go weak at the knees.

Amen! My favorite Refused song.

Oh heck, if we’re going classical, Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor, by Johann Sebastian Bach. At the other end of things, Rock and Roll Dreams Come True, and Dead Ringer for Love, both performed by Meatloaf and written by Jim Steinman. Actually, I’ll take most things by Bach or Steinman.

CJ

actually firebat i would agree there are a number of classical songs which are ‘heavy’ enough to be played loudly, although i’ll admit i have no idea what they are called indivisually.

A few favorites:

Hash Pipe by Weezer

Over and Over by Neil Young

Sentimental Hygiene by Warren Zevon

Happy Jack by The Who (Keith Moon on drums–oh,yeah)

Revolution by the Beatles (John Lennon)

More:

“Who Made Who” by AC/DC
“Fight For Your Right” by The Beastie Boys
“Cordelia” by The Tragically Hip
“Low” by Cracker
“I Alone” by Live
“For Those About To Rock” by AC/DC

Some bands just have to be played loud.

All of the early works of the Manic Street Preachers

Yeah, that is about as good as it gets. Yngwie Malmsteen did a classical album that’s pretty sweet too–ever heard an electric guitar playing Baroque music with a full orchestra accompanying?

Tilted - Sugar
New Day Rising - Hüsker Dü
Amazing Journey/Sparks - The Who (The version on Live at Leeds in particular.)
I Don’t Care About You - Fear
Ocean Size - Jane’s Addiction
Sweat Loaf - Butthole Surfers
So What - Ministry
I Will Refuse - Pailhead
Gouge Away - The Pixies
Silver Rocket - Sonic Youth

And…I was always just mildly fond of Valley Girl by Frank Zappa, but a few days back we had sort of a drunken Zappa odyssey and I really listened to it for the first time. Underneath Moon Unit’s yammering there’s some truly bad-assed stuff going on there … especially the bass line.

In no particular order:

“In Bloom” by Nirvana
“Pretty Noose” by Soundgarden
“Plush” by STP
“Hero of the Day” by Metallica
“My Sacrifice” by Creed
“Sweet Emotion” by Aerosmith
“Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard
“Lonely is the Night” by Billy Squire
“Kickstart My Heart” by Mötley Crüe
“You Really Got Me” by, yes, Van Halen (sorry Kinks’ fans)
“Paradise City” by Guns N Roses

and everything by Led Zepplin

Though if you need a symphonic accompaniment while you’re out kickin’ peoples’ asses you can’t do much better than Orff’s Carmina Burana…or maybe Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Second Movement if you’re into the whole bowler-hat Kubrick thing…

“Renegades of Funk” by Rage Against the Machine

Ain’t That Pretty At All - Warren Zevon

Peace Frog

Heartbreaker by Zeppelin

When Worlds Collide by Powerman 5000

Down On Me by Jackyl

More Human Than Human by White Zombie

Dissident by Pearl Jam

Empire by Queensryche (man, we used to really crank that one!)

Mudshovel by Staind

Man in the Box - Alice in Chains
Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana
Voodoo - Godsmack
Downfall - TRUSTcompany
Tribute - Tenacious D
Anger Rising - Jerry Cantrell
For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica

All of which are in my Winamp playlist right now.
