Turn it up.

This may have been done before, but it’s time to do it again.

What songs, when you hear them start on the car stereo, automatically cause you to reach for the volume and crank it all the way up?

A short list, off the top of my head:

Plimsouls - A Million Miles Away
Neil Young - Country Home
Queen - Tie Your Mother Down
The Replacements - The Ledge
The Mekons - Memphis Egypt
Warren Zevon - Lawyers, Guns and Money
Waterboys - We Will Not Be Lovers
The Knack - My Sharona (really, turn it WAY up)

Camper Van Beethoven - Eye of Fatima, Parts I and II (but find the live version)

Shivaree -
Goodnight Moon

Jill Sobule - Supermodel
Nick Lowe - I Knew the Bride (ONLY the live version from "Stiffs Live, that studio version blows. Sorry, Nick)
Lucinda Williams - Pineola, or Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings

This thread is depressing! You guys actually get to hear stuff like that on the radio? The crappy-ass stations where I live play non-stop crap. I almost never want to turn it up. :frowning:

No, I never hear hardly any of those songs on the radio. The OP says “What songs, when you hear them start on the car stereo, automatically cause you to reach for the volume and crank it all the way up?” I hear them on my stereo when my MP3 player plays them!

My #1 “turn it up” tune is Don’t Bring Me Down, by ELO. I never get tired of it, and louder is better, even though the recording quality leaves much to be desired.

My off the top of my head list:

-Beatles “Revolution” [fast version of course]
-Beatles “I Saw Her Standing There”
-Neil Young “Like A Hurricane”
-Van Morrison “Brown Eyed Girl”
anyone singing “Gloria”, esp. Patti Smith
also anyone’s version of “Wild Nights”

Bob Seger- Hollywood Nights
Don McLean- American Pie
Billy Joel- Only the Good Die Young
The Hollies-Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress
AC/DC- Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
ZZ Top- Tube Snake Boogie
Golden Earring-Radar Love
Big & Rich- Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy
Thin Lizzy- The Boys Are Back In Town
Pretty much anything by Queen
Dead or Alive-You Spin Me Round
Dixie Chicks- Good Bye Earl
Billy Idol- Mony Mony, White Wedding, Rebel Yell
