Songs you turn the volume aaaaaall the way up for

Ya know, untill I got my GMC Jimmy, I’ve never been a big fan of music in general. I couldn’t grasp why people would take music so seriously, spend hundreds of dollars on it, or even proclaim "Music is my *life[/]! Most of all, the act of turning the music all the way up boggled my brain, and annoyed the hell out of me. This changed when I tagged along with my granny and mom to visit a relative in Georgia. My grandma has a habit of constantly talking, to the point where I become seriously stressed out just by listening to her voice, and the only thing that kept me from kicking her out of the car at 70 MPH was my trusty portable CD player, and a volume button that went all the way up to 11. Ever since then music has had a little bit more meaning.

I’ve now been driving for about two years, and have found that I MUST turn the volume all the way up for a select few songs. Otherwise, I am not doing them, or myself justice. They are as follows:

Long Cool Lady in a Black Dress by the Hollys. Baaaaaaaadass song. And the faster you’re driving the better it is. Five additional points of coolness if a burnt out on the edge cop with nothing to lose, and a crazed psychopath, are in the middle of a knife fight on top of your vehicle while it’s playing.

American Woman Lenny Kravitz. I think plenty of people here have said this is a terrible cover song…I’m really not even sure what a cover song is, but I love it. The lyrics don’t mean much to me, but the beat and the singers voice make it a great tune to rock out to.

Vertigo by U2. This only seems to come on while I’m driving to my friends house on the fastest road available to drive on for miles around. hmm.

Magic Carpet Ride Steppenwolf. I nominate this diddy as the funkiest song of this generation. I have a hard time wrapong my mind around the reality of people disliking this song. Squares.

Benny and the Jets by Elton John. Very surreal beat. I can’t listen to it without pictureing myself at a fair or carnival for some reason.

and Welcome to the Jungle

I’m positive I’m forgetting some.

What are yours?

Oh yeah, and an additional 2 Cool points for each person in or around your vehicle wearing shades while it’s playing  .

Who Wants to Live Forever by Queen.
Sure - it’s cheesy, but I love it.

The Lady, there’s no need to justify your love for a cheese song. The only real currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else just as uncool as you. You’re among friends here.

Harkening back to my degenerate days of college, Help Me Rhonda. Because that was always the highlight of any drunken party my friends would throw. Ah, the wonderfully misspent days of my youth!

Tainted Love.
Solly’s Beard.

Rosalita by Bruce Springsteen. I can’t help screaming along with the line “The record company, Rosie, just gave me a big advance,” one of the best expressions of pure joy ever recorded (next to Gene Kelly dancing to “Singin’ in the Rain,” of course).

Sympathy for the Devil

“Don’t Fear the Reaper” - Blue Oyster Cult
“Twilight Zone” - Golden Earring
“Back in the USSR” - The Beatles
“Revolution” - The Beatles
“Across the Border” - Electric Light Orchestra
“Hawaii Five-O Theme” - The Ventures
“Surfin’ Bird” - The Trashmen
“96 Tears” - ? & the Mysterians
“Iron Man” - Black Sabbath
“Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” - Elton John

Down with the Sickness and Stupify by Disturbed. **Sober ** and **Schism ** by Tool.

Oh yeah, and **American Band ** by Grand Funk.

On preview, I see **Mr. Blue Sky ** has mentioned **Iron Man ** by Sabbath. I agree, and add **War Pigs **.

Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen,
Bombtrack by Rage Against the Machine,
and of course,
Bohemian Rhapsody also by Queen.

I’ll also second the Tool songs mentioned, and add pretty much every other song on Aenima or Undertow.

And for the OP, I suggest you listen to the original version of “American Woman.” It has a really cool intro that I don’t think Lenny Kravitz has. It’s by “The Guess Who.” Cover song just means that it was originally written by somebody else, and a new artist is doing their own version of it.

“Pines of the Appian Way” and “Saint Michael the Archangel” by Ottorino Respighi. “Farandole” by Georges Bizet. “Procession of the Nobles” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov…

… You know what? I think the only cds I ever blast are my Classical Thunder ones… huh.

Thanks for clearing that up. I’ll look into the original American Woman sometime.

Believe it or not, I actually do turn it up whenever I hear Skynrd’s Sweet Home Alabama. That song rocks!

I also get loud with Earth, Wind, & Fire’s September, and Linkin Park’s entire Meteora album, among others.
