I’ve already done my 5, but really, can anybody hear The Future (Cohen) and not think of Natural Born Killers?
Having seen it in the last 6 months, you’d groan. It’s so bad it fails to be Rifftrax/MST3k funny most times.
Flight of the Valkyries - Apocalypse now
Toccata and Fugue in D minor - Rollerball
Over the Rainbow - The Wizard of Oz
As Time Goes By - Casablanca
“Nature Boy,” Untamed Heart..
“Carry On Wayward Son,” Heroes.
“Put the Gun Down,” We’re the Millers
“Moon River,” Breakfast at Tiffany’s. .
“Old Time Rock and Roll,” Risky Business.
Stuck In The Middle With You, and I don’t even need to say the film title.
For me, that one is Supernatural. From Wiki:
“Carry On Wayward Son” is considered the unofficial theme song for the television series Supernatural .[38][39] It is heard in the final episode of almost every season of the show, in “The Road So Far” synopses of previous episodes.[40][a] At San Diego Comic-Con in 2017, Kansas appeared at the Supernatural panel and played the song live.
Another one from me: Freebird in Kingsman.
“Canned Heat” by Jamiroquai from Napoleon Dynamite.
“Flight of the Valkyries” from Apocalypse Now.
“Hooked On A Feeling” by Blue Suede from Reservoir Dogs.
“Cocaine Blues” by Johnny Cash from Walk the Line.
This one may be kind of a cheat, but “One” by Metallica always makes me think of Johnny Got His Gun. The band bought the rights to the movie, and mixes scenes of it into the music video.
Chuck Berry’s You Never Can Tell makes me think of the movie Pulp Fiction, partly because I’d never heard it before (and this is the only place I encountered it), and partly because I would never have picked a song like this for a “Twist” competition.
And, of course, Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster from the original 1949 Mighty Joe Young. It’s played throughout, but never more dramstically than in this scene:
I’ve never seen that show. If you haven’t seen the movie Heroes, I recommend it. This song played over the end credits, and it felt as if it were written specifically for this movie, even though it wasn’t.
The same for Supernatural. The main characters are literally sons carrying on their father’s life work, and they’re pretty wayward, since it involves itinerant travel all over the country.
Sixteen Candles - Oingo Boingo’s ’ Wild Sex in the Working Class’ (the one Farmer Ted dances to in the gym)
Why not pick it? You can perfectly dance the twist to “You Never Can Tell”, and something like “The Twist” or “Let’s Twist Again” would have been too much of a pedestrian and obvious choice for someone like Tarantino.
You made me think of another Oingo Boingo tune: “Dead Man’s Party” in Back to School.
That’s cool!
My favorite part of the movie.
- Oingo Boingo’s “Goodbye Goodbye” reminds me of Fast Times At Ridgemont High.
Speaking of FTARH, how about a little Moving in Stereo? Up to you if your thoughts include Phoebe Cates’s bathing suit top.
Does anybody effing knock anymore?
I don’t remember her bathing suit top at all.
And then there’s the classic Tom Hanks film w/Oingo Boingo doing the title track:
Bachelor Party!
