Manic Street Preachers - “Kevin Carter”
Filter - Take a Picture
“Developing My Pictures” by George Jones.
I think one drawback to photography-themed music is that photographs seem to be commonly used as a metaphor for regret, lost happiness, etc. (E.g, “Traces” by Classics IV) So you end up with a rather depressing set.
You’re right – I can hear Patsy Cline now: “I’ve got your pictures; she’s got you.”
Bucks Fizz - My Camera Never Lies
John Prine -Picture Show
A Mocca man in a wigwam sitting on a Reservation.
With a big black hole in the belly of his soul
Waiting on an explanation
While the white man sits on his fat can
And takes pictures of the Navajo
Every time he clicks his Kodak pics
He steals a little bit of soul.
Nickelback - Photograph
Same here, but yeah, besides being creepy as all get out, it’s more about an assassination than photography. I was going to mention “Goodbye Norma Jean” by either Elton John or Kate Bush, but that’s more about Marilyn Monroe even though it mentions paparazzi (before they were called that).
Edit to add I really like Camper Van Beethoven’s cover of “Photograph” but I can’t find it on YouTube.
This one has lots and lots of pictures, one could say leafing through photographs is the theme of video to the song Metro by Berlin. The beginning and end of the video is looking at photographs.
Camera - R.E.M.
I’ll Wait, by Van Halen
It’s reaching a bit, but what about Calendar Girl as performed by Neil Sedaka
“I am a Camera” by Gentle Giant
“Blue Money” by Van Morrison.
