Songs You Use to Cheer Yourself Up

Carpenters - “Top of the World” and “Those Good Old Dreams”.

Man, that girl could sing. What a loss.

It’s hard to beat When the Saints Go Marchin’ In for a pick-me-up.

I particularly like the Canadian Brass version, which plays Saints and the Halleluja Chorus at the same time. Oddly enough, it works!

On Kyth’s cheering-up playlist:

–“Woo Hoo” by the 5.6.7.8’s (Yes, I know it’s from that Vonage commercial, it’s still cute and catchy)
–“Soul Bossa Nova” by Quincy Jones
–“Can’t Take My Eyes off You” by Harry Connick Jr.
–“Move On Up” (I forget who sang it)

All of Paul Simon’s “Graceland” album. I’ve got it on right now.

Doobie Brothers are good too.

I just got a big ol’ CD full of Strauss polkas and waltzes that would cheer up anyone. They’re all Vienna Philharmonic performances and they make me feel like polka-ing even when stuck in rush hour traffic.

“Movin’ Right Along” by Kermit and Fozzie. From The Muppet Movie.

(Yes, I’m a grown-up)

Any Slipknot song… :smiley: :stuck_out_tongue:

Or “Three little birds” by **Bob Marley

The Animal Song by Savage Garden, its just a really upbeat song!

“King of Spain” by Moxie Fruvous! (sp?)

Gets me even dancin’ in my chair! :slight_smile:

Pretty much anything by Jimmy Eat World, their songs are so beautiful and intense. Probably for the same reason, Joni Mitchell, namely ‘Case of you’, ‘River’ and ‘California’. Van Morrison’s ‘Brown Eyed Girl’. They’re like medicine for the soul. Or something :slight_smile:

Polyphonic Spree

Dave Matthews Band’s Ants Marching

I swear I’m a freak in that any music (well, any that I would normally listen to, which covers most of it) will cheer me up, unless I’m in such a mood that the song will make me feel worse–for example, Celine Dion’s Goodbye when someone just died. Aside from that, if it’s music it makes me feel better. Depressing music? There’s no such thing for me.

For a real pick-me-up though, and I’m sure someone will hit me for bringing this back up, remember Dragostea Din Tea? I cannot listen to that and not be in a great mood afterwards.

::hits the previous poster::

::walks away singing “Ma-ah-hee!”::

Keep Your Sunny Side Up, Painting the Clouds with Sunshine, Look for the Silver Lining . . .

Nah, that’s not that freaky at all. It’s actually capital-R Romantic to want nature (in this case music) to match your mood.

I’m sure you’re a freak for lots of other reasons though. :smiley: :smiley:

I Will Survive Any of a number of punk covers. heh.

Rip This Joint, Rolling Stones
Peg, Steely Dan
(Get Up I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine, James Brown

Rocky Mountain High, John Denver :o

No wonder you are a moody bastard. Don and Walt fan, are you?http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=6027286#moody bastard
Although a Don and Walt devote, I get my Jones from listening to Poulenc’s mass for choir…
